Ball Mastery - Dribbling and Running with ball (15 mins)

Organization:20x20 area. All players have a ball.

Instructions:

All players dribble around the area;

Coach calls out numbers which equal simple moves, e.g. 1 = Fake; 2 = Scissors.

Then progress to "Switch!"; players stop their ball still and run to get another ball to start dribbling with, (See diagram);

After a few goes start to remove balls so that those left without a ball must try to steal one from those with;

A player whose ball is stolen must now steal one from someone else;

Play for set time.

Coaching Points:

Change of speed and direction;

Head up, accelerate to space.

Progressions:

Coach can limit the area of the foot with which to dribble ball;

Add more balls than players;

Player who has ball stolen must try and steal it back from the player who took theirs.

Timing of moves (20 mins)

Organization: 15x8 areas. All players have ball each to start

Instructions:

Players dribble to centre marker;

Players perform a move to go to the left of the cone;

Then accelerate to opposite line.

If able, progress to a different move, e.g. Scissors.

Coaching Points:

Controlled approach;

Timing of move, outside tackling radius but not too early;

Body shape - low centre of gravity;

Change of speed and direction;

Head up, accelerate.

Progressions:

Start with simple fake then if able, progress to Scissors, if players excel try further moves.

Start slow, then build up to game pace.

Have players use one ball but pass to opposite player after going past cone.(B)

Go to RIGHT of cone.

Finish with 3 v 3/4 v 4 games in 30x20 area, (Could make it slightly narrower to force 1v1s).

After playing for a few minutes progress if able, to one goal = 2 points if a player dribbles by another to score.
