Finishing

1) Wall-pass. Take a touch and shoot or hit it first time.

2) Turn to the outside and shoot.

*Alternate lines.

Coaching points: Where should you finish? If keeper is hugging near post- low far post. If keeper is cheating far then slip it in near post. Are you obvious on your turns?

Add 5v2 Progression before starting this.

Pre-Practice Talk:

May's exemplary work ethic. Others couldn't care less. Development.

1. The team comes first. There is no place for selfishness, egotism, or envy.

2. We have complete control over our physical preparation and take responsibility for it.

3. We choose to be positive.

1v1 Defending Technical Warm-up (15 mins)

1v1 Defending with Technical Warm-up.

Warm-up: partner jockey progression before starting activity above.

Players: Addi, Isabelle, Emma, Abby, Kelly, Malena (or Bianca)

1) A passes ball to B. B dribbles and attempts to score in small goal. A closes down quickly and forces wide. After play is over, A has to perform dyanmic side shuffles through the long poles.

Rotate after finishing sides.

2) Same as #1. But now A adds a block to the side shuffle

3) Same as #1 but now A goes through backwards through the long poles.

* Have other grid exactly the same but mirroring so players work on defending different angles.

Coaching points: Close down quickly, low stance and and round your run. What happens if you run straight at attacker? (goal is wide open)

*Teach what goal side means!

Defenders need to be tenacious

Defensive Warm-up Progression:

Set-up: Cones are 15-20 yards apart.3 x 45 seconds work/rest ratio.

1) Players alternate stepping and covering to different color cones. Telling teammates to pressure and force wide/line. Also talking must occur when you step to cone. If not there is going to be fitness.

2) Add ball where players pass the ball back and forth.

Set-up: Field 20x25 Grid.

Progression: 3-4 minute games. Losers have fitness.

1) 5 passes = 1 point.

2) Get one point whenever you successfully play one touch with teammate

3) Get one point everytime you do a combination with your team.

4) Play game 3 again after making coaching points.

Coaching points: What should you do after you pass the ball? (introduce 3 step rule) Must pass and move. When you perform combination play, need to face up defender and pass and move around them.

For one touch game: players will want to force one touch passes all the time. Introduce decision making, when is the best time to one touch pass? (what should you do before receiving the ball to make this possible <peak>)

8v8 Arsenal Way (30 mins)

8v8 Arsenal Way: 3-3-2

OR 1 point for a goal or 1 point for a wall-pass

Game # 1: Only way to go forward is to dribble or off of combination play. Target can only play it first time - if not it's a turnover.

Coaching Points:

1) Move immediately for support after played forwards

2) Every player has had opportunites to go forwrards, but all players have chosen to go backwards

3) GK if you have trouble getting out of the back, just bang a couple forwards

4) Passing backwards doesn't solve problem

5) Combination - if someone plays it forwards

6) Don't cut the ball back - every 1/2 chance that you have take it - don't look to possess - (carve the defender) beat the defender and shoot

Progression:

Game # 2 : Same Rules as Game #1 but take 2 players off and add 2 neutrals - search for the seams for combination play

Game #2 again:

Coaching Point: 1) Neutrals should stagger, one should stay higher than the other - look to combine with each other. 2)Don't pass up opportunity to shoot - carve her and go. 3) Run at the defender to commit than play

Game #3: Every pass had to go forwards - except combination pass which can be set.

Coaching Point: 1) Dribble Backwards to play forwards. 2) Target player has to find seam so that the ball can be played forwards.

Game #4: Add one more player to each team. One team has only 6 seconds to shoot. The other team's rule is that every pass must be forwards, you ar eallowed one back pass per possession, but i has to have been played forwards 1st time.

Coaching Point: 1) only go backwards if there is no pressure on the receiving player - set them perfectly for a forward pass. 2) back pass has to be played on the foot that the player is (right footed player should receive on her right)

Game #5: Change objectives for each team.

Game #6: Free play: GK - 2-1-3-1
