Ball Mastery

Set-up:

-Groups of 3/4 with a server

-Serving player servers the ball to oncoming player who takes a touch to cushion and takes a touch to send it back to servers hands

-Rotate oncoming players

-Listen/watch for coaches signal to change

-1 point for ball that land back in servers hands

Coaching points:

-Cushion ball with first touch to set up an easier 2nd touch to the server

-Keep eye on ball and move towards it when its in the air

Progressions:

Head + Head

Chest + Head

Knee + Volley

Master Control

Set-up:

-Players in groups of 3 around 3-4 yards apart

-2 passers serving the ball and 1 worker switching between the 2

-Server passes to working player who side foots the ball back one touch and quickly moves to the other side of the cone and repeats with the opposite foot

-Working player then quickly moves across to the other servers and does the same

-Work for 60 seconds

Coaching points:

-Quick movement across to other server

-Adjust and shuffle feet around cone

Progressions:

-Outside of foot

-Roll and quick pass

1v1 Change of Direction

Set-up:

-3 players in a triangle, 2 at the tip and 1 in the middle at the far end

-One player at the tip dribbles up to cone and cuts the ball back when defender closes in

-As soon as the player cuts the defender turns and closes down the other player who has already started to dribble (cue to start was when the other dribbler performed their cut and turned)

-Repeat the process for 60-90 seconds and switch defender

Coaching points:

-Quick 'cuts' (inside and outside) when defender approaches

-Keep ball close at all times

1v1 feints

Set-up:

-Diamond shape area with players behind cone with ball each and a defender in the middle

-Player with ball runs at defender and feints to their right when he gets close

-Defender doesn't attempt to win the ball, he applies close pressure to attacker

-Next player then goes and defender has to adjust

Coaching points:

-Produce body movement/skill with speed and efficiency to unbalance and deceive defender

-Keep the ball close and accelerate away with one touch

-Keep eyes on defender to read body movement and cues

Progressions:

-Each player goes to their left

-Use feint, scissors, cuts, chops

-If players are high in ability use double moves

1v1

Set-up:

-1v1 attacking and defending.

-Defender passes ball to attacker who generates a positive first touch and tries to beat the defender and score in either goal

-If defender wins the ball they then become the attacking player and do exactly the same into the othe two goals

Coaching points:

-Positive first touch

-Encourage skills and body movements to unbalance and beat defender

-Transition from a-d and d-a

Progressions:

-Add another 1v1 scenario across the field
