Take it off line (20 mins)

Focus is passing with the instep and controlling with the inside of the boot, specifically taking the ball off the line using the front foot or the back foot.

It is vital only the inside of the boot is used for the first touch and pass. Discourage using any other part of the foot as it will lead to bad habits and players avoiding using their weaker foot. Outside of the foot should be discouraged at all times unless dribbling at this age especially in training.

NOTE at under 8 level part A is very important, it is unlikely you will get to part B until under 9, please do not rush through in order to complete both parts as the technique learned in part A is vital.

A) The ball is played in and the centre player 2 controls using inside of the foot taking it off line and out of the square. They then pass the ball back to player 1. The player then turns and re-enters the box receiving the ball from player 3 and repeating on that side. After a few minutes swap roles.

B) Similar to A.The ball is played in and the centre player 2 controls using inside of the foot taking it off line and out of the square. However player 1 races to one side of the square. Player 2 needs to move the ball to the opposite side away from player 1. Player 2 then leaves the square and dribbles to number 1's old position. Player 1 now becomes the square player and receives the ball from the other side.

Triangle Game (15 mins)

4v4 game but without goals. Instead the teams need to attack a triangle.

To score a teammate needs to pass the ball through a triangle (in their attacking area) to a teammate on the other side. If the ball is controlled they can keep going and score another until the opposing team wins the ball and attacks their triangles.

Each team has 2 triangles to attack.

Note that the triangles need to be inside the pitch and defenders are not allowed in them.

Variation: Teams can attack any triangle
