Activation and Warm Up (10 mins)

Session Area

Circle area

Set Up

All players in circle together going through core movements

10 x back rolls knee to chest

10 x scorpion back stretch

10 x on knees opposite hand and leg out (stabilisation across the hips)

3 x plank holding for 10 seconds

10 x 6 inches - leg into chest and switch - slow movement

4 x push ups - tighten glutes when doing so

6 x once 1 leg and straight for 5 seconds

On knees - knee to chest and kick out

Stabilisation exercises

Standing - lift one knee up - close eyes for 5 seconds x 3 each leg

Balance on one leg - gentle squat - 5 x each leg

Standing straight - turn and squat x 10

Hamstring stretch partner holding back of legs x 3 reps right up

Dynamic movement

Using hurdles - 4 hurdles per group

Hurdle Walk - knee up and over, trailing leg follows in sideway movement

Two forward - One back

Opening the gate

Closing the gate

Side Leg Swings

Activation Running

PROGRESSION - Now up to 6 x 60M runs at 60% maximum

Nomads Moves (10 mins)

Session Area

20x20 yard coned zone.

Set Up

When players arrive early they simply take a ball each and go to 20x20 yard zone. Before session begins players will simply practice keepy ups until session starts bang on time.

Players can also practice any tricks etc they may wish to do also.

The Nomads Moves will comprise of the following eight moves:

Key Points

Drop and Go:

Ensure standing leg planted at side of ball with that same elbow dropped to disguise player dribbling or passing that way.

Ball then taken away with the outside of the opposite foot to beat the oponent.

Scissors (Single)

When confronting defender, quickly step over the ball with the outside of the foot and use the opposite foot to take the ball away.

Double Scissors - Same as single scissors but with an extra step over with opposite foot and then take ball away with the outside of the initial step over foot.

Drag Push - As approach defender move the ball across the body with the sole of the foot and then quickly flick the ball with the outside of the same foot in the opposite direction to break away from defender.

TURNS

Inside Hook

As approaching the ball, quickly reach over the ball and and move it back in the opposite direction using the inside of the foot.

Outside Hook

Identical to inside hook above but now when turning use the outside of the foot.

Stop Turn

As you approach the ball, shape as if going to make a pass. Then stop the ball with the sole of your foot, step over the ball making a half turn with the same foot and then take it away with the same foot using the outside of the boot.

Drag Back

As the ball is in front of you, use the sole of your nearest foot to drag the ball enabling you to turn in different direction.

Challenges

Power minute - How many of these two moves and turns can a player perform both footed in a minute.

Or as a team who is the quickest to get through performing all moves and turns.

Speed and Agility Work (10 mins)

Session Area

Coned goal in middle with players ten yards either side with ladders each side also.

Set Up

Players face ecah other in lines. Coach serves to red with a yellow in goal. As soon as red has headed he becomes goalkeeper and yellow attempts with header. Red then goes through ladders to right and joins back of yellow group.

Can start with simply passing through gate to get agaility through cones and rhythym before going into heading game.

Key Points

Quality of the header.

Reaction of player who headed to now become goalkeeper.

Challenges

Different moves through ladders, 1, 2 feet etc

2 minute games with scores kept

Ball Familiarity (20 mins)

Session Area

30 x 30m area

5x5m x 4 grids

Set Up

Simple exercise of four different bibs - 1 in each square.

Players have to pass square to square to each other and follow the pass.

Chaos with so many players and players must be on the move at all times.

Simple warm up exercise just 1 minute per drill

Challenges

Switch direction coaches shout

Two touch max

Clipped ball to the back of the area

Sprint to middle round a pole then jog to second box

Competition - which team transfers ball round quickest

Sets - 2

Complete block is for player to return to his original possition. 2 blocks will equal one set.

Looking at 2 sets in total. Usually five minutes of play to get around twice. 2 minute recovery before second set.

Set Up

7v7 or depending numbers

Rule - 3 touch for all.

Playing speed increased by 15%, high speed running up by 3m as well as totsal disstance covered increaed by 50m.

Cool Down and Recovery (10 mins)

Session Area

Two L shapes. Players split into two groups. Dynamic movement on the way out and gentle skip on the way back.

If to many players simply set out 20m straight - out dynamic movement way back gentle skip.

Gentle Dynamic movements at steady pace followed by floor based static stretching

Vital in order to dispurse lactoic acid and decrese chances of DOMS (delayed onset of muscle soreness).

Over the gate

Open the gate

Side Steps

Hand Tap

Lunge Walk

Kick Out

Hamstring Sweep

Players again in circle for static stretches all floor based including:

Roll Back

Knee to Chest

Back Twist

Groins - feet together

Pretzel

Lying Quad

Hip Flexor (Hands on hips)

Hamstring

Abductors (elbows to ground and leg out to side)

Calf stretch and calf cycles

Cycling

Most importantly decrease risk of injury over pre season and whole season campaign.

All Players then to do ice baths - 3 minutes straight

Protein shake to be taken on board within 10 minutes of finalising session.
