Juggling Warm-up (10 mins)

Organization:

Players in Pairs

One Ball

One Net/Line

Instructions:

- Players play soccer tennis

- Players get 3 touches maximum and 1 bounce (2 bounces for younger or less experienced).

- If the player takes the ball out of the air before any bounce, they are not allowed any bounce(s).

Coaching Points:

- Use of both feet and multiple surfaces

- Can they use other parts of their body to control and set up their play (head, chest, thigh, etc.)

- Weight of shot

- Footwork/movement to anticipate the shot

Main Theme (15 mins)

Organization:

10x10 yard areas (adjust accordingly for player level)

2v2 plus 2 (each team has targets)

Instructions:

- Possession game inside the box.

- Team must work the ball from end-to-end to score a point.

- After scoring on one end, next point awarded when played to target player on opposite side.

- Team is allowed to play back to the same target player after scoring; however, it is only for the sake of keeping possession, a point is not awarded.

- If ball is stolen by opposing pair, they must work towards the same attacking objective.

- Play for certain time, then switch pairings in the middle.

Coaching Points:

- Can we keep possession in the 4v2 working end-to-end?

- Body shape of two inside players to receive the ball

- Spacing

- Movement of target players (laterally to follow play)

- Angles of support

- Playing passes to the proper foot (back foot)

- Speed of play

- Playing backwards to same target player to keep possession

Progressions:

- Smaller space

- Two touch

- One touch

Regressions:

- Increase space

- No touch restriction

Main Theme II (15 mins)

Organization:

Half Field

6v6

Multiple balls with coach

Small goals in each corner

Instructions:

- Possession Scenario: One team in possession as they are winning 2-0, and they are looking to keep the ball and kill the clock (3-minute game); opposing team must look to steal the ball and score in any small goal.

- Team in possession can score additionally if they play a penetrating pass to coach standing inside the square, and coach is able to play a 1-touch pass to a new possession teammate.

Coaching Points:

- Patience when in possession

- Speed of play

- Spacing

- When to possess and when to look to penetrate

- Switching the point of attack

Conditioned Game (10 mins)

Organization:

- 50 x 30 yard area as shown

- Two teams of 6 + 1GK

- 2 goals

- 1 ball in play

- Spare balls nearby

Instructions:

- The objective for the blue team is only to possess the ball, they have three players on the inside and two players on the outside.

- The blue team can also use both goalkeepers to help them possess (making 7v5)

- The objective for the white team is to win the ball and score in either goal.

- Play 3 minute games, then rotate teams.

- The team that scores the most goals is the winning team.

Coaching Points:

- Short passing to draw defenders close

- Long passing to penetrate and unbalance

- Use GK to help switch the ball and keep defenders moving

- Movement off the ball to create passing angles

Progression:

- P - Reduce touches of attacking team

- R – The defending team must make two passes before they are able to shoot (allowing attacking team to recover)
