Pass / Recieve & Move (20 mins)

Session Objective: Passing - Ideal as part of warm up.To improve passing and receiving.

Organisation: 12 v 4 (vary numbers according to number of players but 4:1ratio in favour of outside players).

Extensions: development into multiple passing routines.Examples shown but list is endless and allows coach to create.

Example 1).A passes to 1 who feeds 3 who sets 2 who brings ball out.A joins edge of circle.Can vary with pass from 1 to 2 or to 4 and then set back to 3.

Example 2).B passes to 5 who feeds 6 and then drops back two yards.6 feeds 7who passes to B who sets to 5 to bring ball back into circle.

Variations and combinations endless.

Can involve movement around players.Example 3).C plays ball to 8,and runs around 8 and 9.* plays ball to 9m and C collects to bring back into circle.

Half Touches, Use of Sole of foot, Disguise.

Movement to receive,Body shape,quality of pass. Awareness/Head up

Work on Receiving skills, dealing with the ball under pressure, passing and keeping possession and using the ball effectively. shots and headers on target.

Individual rolls and resposibilities. When to drop off and pull away to create space, link up play and movement with and without the ball.

Physical.

Develop Aerobic and Anaerobic capabilities of players. Game specific work.

Psychological.

Test the ability to work under pressure, scenario

Social

Encourage team mates and develop good habits.

Session Organisation

60 x 60, Balls, Manaquines or cones, 2 Goals. 2 GK,14+ Players

Detail

2 Balls played out at the same time from GK into full-backs on the same side of the field. Directional Practice. Recieve,Pass and Follow, Finishing with a cross and strike ongoal. Repeat and add progressive conditions, give and goes, set and spin etc.

Quick Passing / Receiving in a SSG (20 mins)

Session Organisation

Area 60x40yds, divided into 3 equal zones, with appropriate size goals at each end, as illustrated.

16 players (incl. 2GK’s), arranged 2-2-2 + 2 1v1 Floaters ,as shown in the diagram.Supply of balls by each goal.

Players are restricted to the designated zones

Practice starts with: ball rolled-out from GK. Team in possession, look to play through the thirds

of the field, varying speed of attacking play & using 1/2 touch passing, if possible.

Open play continues until the ball goes dead. The practice then recommences with initial set-up.

Detail

Quick passing using 1/2 touch (if possible), to eliminate pressure..Recognition of when to use 1/2 touch passing & when to slow-down play to secure ball retention. Use of different skills & foot surfaces to maximise 1/2 touch/quick play.

Making good decisions when quick play sequences are unavailable. Simple progressions for this practice are:Units can push-up & drop-back into next zone to create 5v5 in single & two-zone play.

All players are ‘free’ & interchange roles & positions.

Angles & distances of support. Appropriate speed of passes & inter-passing.

Changing tempo (e.g. slowing down play, to speed-up & vice versa).

Early selection of individual finishing techniques & execution.
