Endurance Shooting

Description on each exercise:

1 - Slalom drible with ball through cones.

2 - Dribble with ball through gate.

3 - Stop ball dead at edge of area (leave ball where it is).

4 - Run, without ball through gate towards ladder 1.

5 - Fast feet (forwards) through ladder 1.

6 - Fast feet (sideways) through ladder 2.

7 - Hurdle jumps (feet together).

8 - Shoot to beat GK.

Coaching points:

- Correct technique (build up tempo)

- Timing of exercises (effectiveness of the drill)

- Timing of the run onto the ball (from the take over)

- Shooting technique (head over ball, stiker with the appropriate foot)

- Maximum effort through exercises (develop speed & endurance)

Fun Endurance Scoring

2 Teams - red and yellow.

Defending team has 3 players in goal and the rest as servers.

Attacking team are signalled to go and each player has to complete all 3 stations before the next player goes.

Stations:

1 - Header (served as a throw).

2 - Shot from outside the box (served as a pass along the floor).

3 - Cross (served at the servers discretion).

Rules:

Player in the goal cannot use their hands and connot actively move side to side or forwards and backwards.

Attacking players must run back and touch the orange cone before movin on to the next station.

Upon completion, teams swap over.

Teams are scored on goals scored and time to complete the session.

Coaching points:

Shooting.

Heading.

Passing.

Throwing.

Speed.

Fitness.

Learning Objectives

Technical Technical
Receiving positions (back to goal, side on, running on to ball), body shape when receiving, passing.
Technical Tactical
Running off of the ball, shooting, combination skills (1-2, pass and move, 1 touch passing).
Technical Physical
Movement (dummy runs etc), quick reaction (second ball).
Technical Psychological
Anticipation (runs and/or passes), observation (oposition movements, team mates movements, passes).
Technical Social
Communication (visual, verbal).

Functional Practice (15 mins)

Equipment:

* x5 yellow and x5 red bibs.

* x10 size 5 footballs.

* x1 full size goal.

* Blue cones (for pitch marking), x4 red cones (x2 for gate/goal, x2 for offside mark).

* Blue flat markers (to mark half way line).

* whistle.

Organisation:

* Set area up as width of the goal area plus 40 yards in length, split into two areas/boxes.

* Attacking team (yellow) to have 2 strikers and 3 midfield players.

* Defending team (red) to have 1 goalkeeper, 2 defenders and 3 midfielders.

Session Aim:

* For the attacking team to play the ball into one of the 2 strikers, who then have to combine with each other and attempt to score.

* If the attacking team score or the ball goes out of play, the attack starts again from the attacking midfield.

* If the defenders win possession, the can score by running the ball through the red gate.

* Players to stay in their designated areas until the coach changes the session.

* Offside applies.

Session progression:

(To make session harder):

* Remove the half way line that separates midfield from attack and play as before, players can now move anywhere and combine with midfield.

* Add an extra defender in either sections.

* Play 2 touch.

(To make session easier):

* Remove a midfield defender.

* Make area bigger.

* Allow the passing midfielder to join the attackers in the other area upon successful completion of the pass.

Key Factors:

* Communciation of players.

* Quality of passing.

* Quality of movement (stationary, diagonal runs, runs on and off of the ball, looking for a one two.

* Link up play (upon progression), ability to read the game and team mates.

* Technique - 1st touch, part of foot to control, quality and accuracy of passing and shooting.

* Shooting.

* Positive attitude - attempt to link up with team mate/s and get a shot in early (real game tempo).
