Warm Up - Passing / Receiving (20 mins)

Organization:

- Half group w/ ball inside square

- Half group w/o ball outside square

Instructions:

- Players inside square play ball to players outside square.

- Player A opens up, receives, dribbles to perform move in center square (red cones) and finds another pass on outside

- Switch roles

Coaching Points:

- Checking away in order to create space

- Open body to face field

- Take look as ball is being passed (recognize space behind)

- Receive on back foot (furthest from Player B)

- Disguise direction of 1st touch

- 1st touch into space behind

- Communication of option

Progression:

- Various types of turns depending on pressure / approach angle of imaginery opponent.

P

- Players work in pairs

- One player starts with ball, other player is the defender

- Defenders try to steal ball

- Player with ball for when frozen by coach wins the game

Main Theme - Passing (15 mins)

Organization:

- Players in pairs

- 15 yds apart (distane age appropriate)

- One player w/ ball, other player's ball on cone

Instructions:

- Players attempt to strike their ball and knock the soccer ball off the cone.

- If player misses, partner retrieves ball and repeats

- If player knocks ball off cone, they reset ball as partner retrieves the other ball to continue

- Partners can be teammates or be competing with one another ( Point for knocking ball off cone)

Coaching Points:

- Angle of approach

- Plant foot (Placement / direction)

- Contact point (ball / foot)

- Head up / Head down

- Follow through

Progressions:

- Longer distance

- Players compete, winners progress to next field up

Main Theme - Passing / Receiving (25 mins)

Organization:

- Players split into even teams (not resticted to 2 teams as shown)

- Each player gives themself a number (1-5)

Instructions:

- Teams begin by passing the ball around freely in their groups with no opposition

- Coach will call out a number 1-5. The player with the corresponding number will go across into the other team's box to try to win the ball or knock it out

- Last team remaining with posssession of the ball wins (1 point)

- Play to desired number of points

Coaching Points:

- Passing / Receiving technique

- Creating angles to open passing lanes

- Maintaining use of entire space

- Communication

Progressions:

- Multiple numbers called out to defend

Tournament 3v3 (30 mins)

Organization:

3v3 Small-sided tournament games: 4 teams of 3 players eachteam. 2 fields of 30x40 yards with 2 Pugg Goals on opposite endlines.

Instructions:

4 Teams of 3, play 3v3 tournament style format where each team will play one another. 3 points for a win, 1 point for a tie and 0 for a loss. Each game should be approximately 6-8 minutes in duration (obviously play a 3 game tournament).

Coaching Points:

· Review of session's learning outcomes being translatedinto the game

· 3 lines of attack

· Creating diamond (gives angles of support)

· Making diamond as big as possible (Creating space)

· Identifying any numbers up situations
