Description

Objective of session to to allow for players to be creative through various sessions incorporating the technical and physical attributes needed. The drills are designed to be fun and competitive.

Warm-up (10 mins)

Organization:

- 20x20 grid, larger where more players are attending.

- each player has a ball and is dribbling within the area.

- lots of touches on the ball (use left / right foot)

a) use inside and outside of foot

b) tick-toks, toe-taps

- change of direction and speed (do not go in circles)

Quick Feet:

- one coach per set of cones.

- hops (single/double legs), side-to-side, in & out

1v1 Opposite Goals (15 mins)

Organization:

- 15 x 15 or larger depending on size of kids

- Coaches plays ball into team, first player on each team enters the grid and player with ball looks to score on either net.

Progression:

- On Coaches command player sprints to corner cone and then back to home before entering grid

- Must score in 7 seconds or less

- Add a second game during play

Coaching Points:

- Quick change of direction

- Pace

- Different cuts to beat defender / opponent

- Face defender / opponent to take him on

- Creativity / Attacking Mentality

Sharks and Minos 2 (10 mins)

Organization:

- make a 20 x 15 yard grid, smaller if less players

- divide the group - start with 2 sharks in the middle while the remaining are outside.

- players with ball must make it accross to finish line - if shark wins the ball then the blue player must do 10 toe-taps

- rotate sharks every 3 mins.

Progressions:

- add 3rd defender

- player uses none-dominate foot (left foot)

- each mino turns into a shark once they lose the ball.

Coaching Points:

- change direction & speed of play

- don't wait for defender to get close, keep moving the ball away from pressure

- keep the dribblers under control and not paniced once the sharks get near them.

Shooting 1 (15 mins)

Organization:

- 20x10 grid

- objective of drill is to learn how to strike the ball.

- player A & B starts by dribbling through the cones. Once they get through the mini opstacle they then sprint to the last cone get around it and take a shot on net.

- each player will then pickup their ball and proceed to the other side (same colour cone) and go through the obstacle course. P

- player must strike with left and right foot.

Coaching Points:

- accuracy before power

- part of foot when striking

Game (15 mins)

Organization:

- Make a 30 x 25 yard grid, smaller if less players

- divide the group into 2 equal teams of 5 + GK required

- make the teams rotate GKs every 4 mins.

Progressions:

- One touch finish are worth 2 goals

- finishing with non-dominant foot worth 2 goals

Coaching Points:

- speed of play = fast (where possible)

- decision making

- attacking mentality

- team defending (everyone is behind the ball when it's lost)

- game management when in possession (don't simply kick it away)

- urgency to score when behind
