Juggling/Ball mastery

Organization:

1. Open area.

2. Every player with a ball.

Instructions:

1. Coach demonstrates various pick-up skills (e.g. fish, scoop, roll flick).

2. Following pick-ups, players perform juggling challenge.

a) Bounce, juggle, catch x10,

b) Bounce, juggle, catch, bounce, juggle, bounce, juggle, catch (add one bounce-juggle after each turn)

3. After 3-5 minutes, players dribble in open area.

Coaching Points:

1. Head up.

2. Soft, controlled touches.

3. Use of both feet.

4. Light on toes.

Progressions:

1. Ensure players keep track of their scores. Encourage players to set and break records.

Warm-Up - SAQ & Rondo

Organization:

1. SAQ - four cones 5yds apart from each other - 20yds total.

2. Rondo - 10x10 grid.

3. Set up 5v2 or 4v2 (based on turnout).

Instructions:

1. After arrival activity, team performs SAQ warm-up together.

2. Players go through series of dynamic movements.

3. Following SAQ, players split up into two grids for Rondo game.

4. Defenders must stay inside grid and attackers must stay on line.

5. Defender switches out if she touches ball or bad pass/touch is made by attacker.

Coaching Points:

SAQ

1. Proper execution of physical movements.

2. Mental and physical preparation - focus.

3. Coordination - all working together.

Rondo

1. Eye contact.

2. Weight and accuracy of pass.

3. Direction and quality of first touch.

4. Speed of play.

Progressions:

1.Add restrictions to rondo - two touches, pass with different foot used to receive, etc.

Technical Unopposed

Organization:

1. 5x5 diamonds

2. Players split in groups of 3-4

3. One ball per group.

Instructions:

1. Players pass along diamond following a series patterns.

a) pass along outside, open up and pass to next player,

b) long pass on outside, set back, through ball in front of cone.

2. Ensure players move to maintain triangles and support to left and right of ball.

Coaching Points:

1. Eye contact - connection.

2. Verbal and non-verbal communication.

3. Weight and accuracy of pass.

4. Quality and direction of first touch.

5. Receive on back foot whenever possible to ensure speed of play.

Progressions:

1. Go through different patterns.

2. Competition - how many passes in set time.

3. Increase/decrease size of diamond as necessary.

4. Add touch limit.

Technical Opposed

Organization:

1. Use diamonds from previous activity.

2. Group sizes will vary based on turnout.

Instructions:

For group of 4:

1. Players set up 1v1 inside diamond with two support players on outside.

2. Players on inside look to receive and and connect with outside support.

3. Rotate roles after 10 consecutive passes or two minutes of play.

For group of 3:

1. 2v1.

2. Attackers must stay outside of the diamond.

3. Defenders must stay inside of the diamond.

4. Rotate roles after 10 consecutive passes or if defender wins possession.

Coaching Points:

1. Movement to create space.

2. Movement to create passing lanes.

3. Decision-making: pass to feet or space.

4. Weight and accuracy of pass.

5. Direction and quality of first touch.

Progressions:

1. Limit touches.

2. Increase/decrease size of area as necessary.

Conditioned Game

Organization:

1. 50x35 area with 15x15 middle zone.

2. Players set up as shown.

Instructions:

1. 6v6 on outside (big square).

2. 3v3 on inside (little square).

3. Team of 6 look to possess around outside.

4. Five passes = 1 point.

5. Team of 3 look to gain possession and play to teammates inside.

6. If team of 3 can play to inside, they join to create 5v2.

7. Five passes = 1 point.

Coaching Points:

1. Visual cues.

2. Movement to create options/space.

3. Look to split defenders when possible.

Progressions:

1. After each point, defending team can add a player up to even numbers.

a) 6v3 on outside can grow to 6v4, 6v5, and eventually 6v6.

b) 5v2 on inside can grow to 5v3, then 5v4, and so on until 5v5.

2. Team on outside score by connecting with middle players and receiving on a different side.
