Cones & Turns (10 mins)

Organization: Players in pairs, each with a ball. Each set/group has a row of 5 cones about 1 yard apart and then a 6th cone about 10 yards beyond.

Instructions: Players weave through tight cones with a variety of touches race to last cone, performs a turn, and get back to start as quickly as possible. Then partner goes. Change type of touches and turn every 2 minutes. Every 3 changes, add fitness activity in. Touches, Turns, Activities include:

Touches - inside of both feet, right foot only, left foot only, outsides of both feet only, push-stop (at each cone), pull Vs, sole rolls though cones.

Turns - Inside chop, outside chop, stepover turn, emerson (ronaldo) chop, cryuff turn, maradona turn

Activities - feet together & jump over cones, 1 footed jump over cones right foot only, left foot only, touch each cone then back to beginning like a relay race.

Coaching Points: little light touches, keep control of ball and keep ball close, head up, change of pace/touches when through tight cones, and then get back to the begginning as fast as you can. Try to go as fast as possible while under control.

Dutch Receiving Square Patterns (15 mins)

Set Up: 10 yard squares. Pass, then follow pass. Next player recieves and play continues. Go both directions. Players and ball should be kept out of the square.

Coaching Points: Quality and Pace/Weight of passes. Pass to correct foot. Move to recieve back foot, facing the play. Call for the ball (Communicate!)

Forward-Set-Slide: Introduce passing pattern as shown. Introduce Forward-Set-Slide terminology.

Coaching Points: Same as pattern 1. Timing of runs and passes. Communication of the forward-set-slide ball movement

Progressions: Use groups of 6 and start 2 balls on opposite corners. Can have them do moves before they pass.

3v1 Keep Ball (10 mins)

Organization: Players play 3v1 Keep Ball against a defender. Can rotate defenders every 2 Minutes or if the defender wins ball, switches with player who last touched it.

Instructions: Can turn into a game where 5 passes = goal. Defenders can score by winning ball. Play 2 minute games where everyone has a chance to be the defender.

Coaching Points: Receive back foot to space away from defender. Proper weight and pace of passes. Recieve, touch and play the ball away from the defender. Keep the ball moving. Move to support teammates. Call for the ball.

4v1 Transitional Possession (15 mins)

Set Up: Groups of 4or 5 in adjacent 15x15 grids. One team plays keep ball Possesion while 1 defender tries to win ball and pass it to his team mates in adjacent square. Player who loses possession becomes defender in adjacent square. Game continues. If ball goes out of bounds, coach plays a new one in immediately.

Coaching Points: Receive back foot to space away from defender. Proper weight and pace of passes. Play the ball away from the defender. Keep the ball moving. Move to support teammates. Call for the ball.

Progressions: Play 4v2 or 5v2. Can players complete a Forward-Set-Slide and retain possession?

4 Corner Game (15 mins)

Organization: Play directional and score by passing ball (1) any corner, (2) any 2 corners, or (3) all corners while retaining possession. Area should be large enough that teams can keep the ball if their technique and decision are correct. Shrink grid to add more pressure.

Coaching Points: Receive back foot to space away from defender. Proper weight and pace of passes. Play the ball away from the defender. Keep the ball moving. Move to support teammates. Call for the ball.
