Touch Step Dribbling Runway (20 mins)

Setup:

After we divide 3 groups. Each group will have 3 sets of cones divided between 3 or 4 players. Runway is anywhere from 10-13 yards long and the cones are 1;2 yard apart (just enough room to fit ball through).

How It Works:

Players touch step dribble through runway, trying not to hit any of the cones. Players are to touch ball each step and not let the ball roll.

Drill Sequence:

A. Practice Moves- Favourite then Opposite Foot

B. Relay races where each player goes twice (player tags teammate before next player can go). First team sitting down wins. Do relay race for one foot at a time.

Keys:

1. Ensure players are touching ball every step (not just letting the ball run)

2. Back is bent to improve speed

3. Support leg doesn't catch up to the ball.

Progression (All groups):

Remove runway cones and position one cone at end. (Top of picture). Players will have touch step relay race. Right foot/left foot.

Players will practice then do relay race (players go twice each); they will alternate turns. If players just kick ball (not touch every step then they have to start again).

BE VERY TOUGH ON THEM, MAKE THEM DO IT OVER. WE ARE AIMING FOR PERFECTION!!!!!!

Key Points:

1.Run off your toes for dribbling foot (the supporting leg can mildly have heel touch the ground)

2.Use your touch step (pinky toe area) for outside foot.

3.Support leg doesn’t catch up to dribbling leg. (Touches are too small then)

4.Ball is more in the middle of your body.

5.Shoulders straight on, not turned sideways.

6. Knees are bent, upper body is bent.

Touch Step Dribbling (25 mins)

Set Up:

Players are working in a 15-20 x 15-20 grid

How it Works:

Each player with a ball, they will perform skills outlined below. They can begin by doing the moves from a standing position then progress to doing it from a touch step dribble.

Coach has option of calling out move or number or have them repeat the moves on their own.

Key:

1. Players do moves before the defender gets to them

2. Players touch the ball into space ater making their move

3. Touch step dribble constantly

Feel free to use the following move/feints, if you would like to add of adjust these or show you're on, feel free to.

Change of Directions Details

***The overarching point of focus is perfecting the technique to make it as quick and efficient as possible with little to no error each and every repetition***

Pull Turn: while dribbling, the player uses the sole of the foot the pull the ball back in the direction he/she came from and continues in the opposite direction

Quick Turn: Dribbling with speed towards one direction with right foot, Pull ball behind with right foot toes and turn the opposite way of ball at same time, Dribble with left foot away from pressure (far foot)

Inside/Outside Cut: while dribbling, the player uses the inside of the foot to change the direction of the ball and turn back the other way (with the inside cut, it can be done to the side of one's body or behind the supporting leg), repeat and complete using the outside part of the foot

Cruijff: Take touch out with right foot, Look up like going to cross (towards the left), Take big step with left support leg to create space for ball, Hit with inside right around ball, hit in perfect line

Touch-Step Switch: Touch step dribbling with left on angle towards left side, Pull ball with toes of left foot underneath body, Take out ball with right foot towards right outside at same time stiff arming defender, Dribble away with far right foot.

The "V": Ball is in front of left foot, Player pulls ball with toes of right foot underneath/inside, Takes touch out with right inside of foot and goes with ball

The "L": Player pretends that they are going to kick ball with right foot, Right foot toes pull ball back and hit behind support leg making an L shape, Attacker goes with ball immediately after hitting ball

Step-Over Turn: A player dribbles forward and fakes a strike/pass but instead steps over the ball and using the inside or outside of the foot the ball turns the ball to go in the opposite direction

The "Balta": Back to opponent, Hit with inside of right foot towards left foot on angle towards defender, Catch with toes of left foot and pull across and turn in one motion, Take touch with inside left foot to push past defender

Step Inside Turn Touch Out: Back to opponent, ball is rolling away, Step inside with right foot over the ball by turning hips (don’t let left foot touch ground), Spin off toes of right foot, Take wide touch with inside left foot away from opponent

Step Inside Outside Touch: Attacker is side on to defender

Soccer Wars - Change Direction (25 mins)

Setup:

A. 1 v 1 on the line (defender cannot touch ball). Cones are 8-10 yards apart. One ball between 2 players. Not in picture above.

B. Soccer Wars - Cones are 10 yards apart with a ball on top. Players waiting, stand on each side of game so that the player who goes out is replaced by a player from the same side. Players not next in line can help get balls back in place. Attacker starts in fron of cone and defender must start between cones.

How It Works:

1 v 1 on the line. Attacker is on one side of line and defender on the opposite. Attacker is trying to get ball in line with cone before defender can get their foot in line with the cone. If attackers score, they start in middle of grid.

40 second rounds then attacker/defender switch roles.

Progress to soccer wars after 10 Minutes

Progression Picture Above (All groups): Player with ball can score on either goal. Players score by knocking ball of pylon. Winner stays in. If attacker misses then defender gets ball from middle and begins as an attacker.

Using the moves/feints we've been working on to beat his/her opponent. Change of direction and dribbling with the far foot will make players successful.

Keys:

1. Believe in your move (some players hesitate after doing move because they don't think it will work and lose their opportunity).

2. Keep eye on ball and defender

3. Accelerate after making move

4. Dribble with far foot (protect the ball)
