Main-Theme (20 mins)

Organization:

Players in pairs

1 ball per pair

2 yard gates, 10 yards in between each player

Instructions:

Players strike the ball through the gate using the driven technique.

No scores to ensure shooting technique is used rather than passes.

Players move up from league if win.

Coaching Points:

Observe target

Angle of approach

Non-Kicking foot placement

Body weight learning forward (head, shoulders, hips then knee over ball)

Contact on ball, contact on foot

Follow through

Land on striking foot

Progressions:

Move gates 15-20 yards apart and make it a competition to see who can be the first to score 10 goals against their partner using correct shooting technique

Brazilian's-Control (25 mins)

Organization: Groups of 4 set around a 10x10x10 triangle

Instructions: (30 second-45 second work periods, 5 second switch of players)

- servers on the sides with ball in hand

- worker backs into the cone and makes eye contact before moving forward to attack the ball.

- maximum number of repetitions within time frame.

Coaching Points:

- quick feet/in line with ball/balls of feet/follow through to target

- inside of foot volley (foot through the ball - solid contact mid line of ball)

- laces volley (drive ball through midline/body over the ball/follow through)

- Thigh control/Volley (inline with ball/soft touch to drop ball to feet)

- Chest Control/volley (inline with ball/withdraw on impact and drop ball to feet)

Heading/Volleys/Half-Volleys to goal (10 mins)

Organization:

- 4 points surrounding goal

- 3 players at each point next to goal(feeder,server,retrieval)

- 3 players at outfield position - Shooters

- diagonal/bent run approach to score by header - service from thrown ball with pace

- shooters swap sides after 3 minutes

- servers swap with shooters after 6 minutes

- set up second goal to provide ample repetitions if more than 12 players.

Instructions:

- thrown ball at approaching player to make them jump and attack the top of ball

- shooter aims for low corner of goal nearest them

- return to shooting line

-- retrieval and feeder players make sure server has steady supply of balls to maintain high pace-max. repetitions.

Coaching Points:

- bent run approach

- eyes open, mouth closed, forehead meets ball above center line and drives ball at feet of keeper into the corner.

- hips and shoulders on target

- timing of run - delayed and then attack the served ball

- confidence and courage in front of goal

-- Semi/Half and Full volleys

-- body in line, attack the ball prior to the bounce, at moment of bounce/let it drop just above the ground before impact.

-- Go through the ball and make solid contact. ATTACK THE BALL.

-- Side volley - hit top half of ball and drive it down.

Progressions:

- switch sides

- switch roles

- bounced serve to allow for Semi/volleys to goal
