Rondos (10 mins)

Rondos - 5v2

Boxes of 15x15, supply of balls and two bibs in each box.

Two players start in middle, no need to wear bib, simply hold it.

Players around the box start to move the ball, if a player intercepts in the centre, switch over bib.

Trying and max out at two touches, try and even speed up to one touch if standard lifts.

Looking for ball to be moved quickly in this exercise and good communication between players on outside.

3-2-1 (15 mins)

3-2-1

Split the group into two equal sizes at opposite end of a 40 yard distance.

The run will last 3 minutes and the players will be expected to run constantly for 3 mins without stopping at fast as they can. They then rest for 1 mins.

They then run for 2 minutes full intensity, then rest for 1 mins. They finally they run for 1 mins, and rest again for 1 mins.

They repeat this three times, however for week 1 repeat 2 times.

Each repetition of 3-2-1 is 12 mins. 24 mins for exercise.

The run will last 5 minutes and will be done twice. One minute recovery in between.

Running at pace with ball and stopping it on the line for the next player.

Possession Games 4v4 (15 mins)

Possession Games 4v4 - 2 end players

Set up of 10 players, 4v4 central and two end players who can play for either side.

Games are for 4 mins, with 2 mins recovery and stretching.

Boxes set up as 25x25, encourage players to get on ball, move the ball early and restrict the touches.

Change the two wall players at the end of each game.

Sprints

Two teams, racing from cone to ball passing on the move and trying to get into goal/cones.

Then sprint through the gate to finish.

Switch of Play (15 mins)

Half of team per set up

Figure of 8 set up to replicate back three, midfield

Two boxes in the centre

Ball to start at A

Drill Objective(s):

Develop the ability of players to switch play.

Developing runs off the ball to facilitate switching play opportunities.

Rotation:

Ball starts at A, played into B, player follows pass. Pass then moves to C and then into D, centre midfield.

Ball needs to be now played out to E, which is a change of play back to the opposite wing.

Introduce a second ball starting at the position currently occupied by A7 in the diagram above once the drill is running at a good tempo.

Coaching Points:

Good technical passing with instep and driven passes for longer balls.

Timing of the runs by receiving players.

Weight of the pass? On the ground or in the air?

2-way communication between passing and receiving players.

Progressions:

Require the midfielder to start outside the central box and check into box B or E.

Require the midfielder to start in the central box, move out and then come back in to receive having created space to receive.

Require the midfielder to receive in another pass in another designated box (i.e. A-F).

Interval Runs (15 mins)

Interval Sprints

Players pair off, and ball between two.

On the whistle they play ball back and forward 5 yards apart.

On second whistle they leave ball an sprint, 3/4 pace across park to another ball.

They repeat passing face to face.

Passing for 10 seconds, whistle then run.

Players have 20 seconds to get across pitch.

8 runs with 3 mins recovery and then another set of 8.
