speed and proper save teqnique (40 mins)

1-keeper moves to first suare of speed ladder,is played a hard driven ball in the air. the player is instucted that if she cannot catch the ball, she should try to punch the ball out of the 18 at a very acute angle to make the follow up shot more difficult as shown on ball one this angle is more difficult, and the keeper has less distance to cover to take away the shooters angle.

2-player then runs in a zig zag mosition through cones, key coaching point is that the players head is up and the players body is centered. player then shuffles back to ladder, where a ball is driven on the ground. player then repeats, going the opposite direction, key coaching poins are for the player to get up quickly and recover for next shot

3-player runs through spaces of speed ladder and the shuffles left and right to cones, make sure that the player is moving at a fast pace and is surveying the entire pitch

4- player runs through 2 more spaces of speed ladder and is then played a driven ball in the air, quickly followed by a shot on the ground. make sure player reacts quickly to the driven balls and recovers to a centered position

5-player then sprints to the lead cone and quickly runs in reverse back to her original position, make sure she is surveying the pitch, the key to this recovery is to quickly determine the right angle to take for the last shot of the drill, this shot should be the hardest driven ball of the excersise, and placed in either corner. make sure tnat the keeper maintains a good position between the goal line and the six yard line. key coaching points are that she is aware at all times of her position inside the box.

Screen 2 (50 mins)

Begin session as you did the first, with the exception of all balls will be driven in the air. make sure the shotter is alternating corners.

1-4 keeper sprints to the first cone to her right and a hard driven ball below knee level is played, a key coaching point is a quick recovery after the diving save. she immediately sprints and jumps the hurdle,as soon as her feet touch the ground another ball is played to the opposite direction. the keeper then sprints to the cone behind her and the process is repeated. she then shuffles through the speed latter and recovers to a position between the goal line and 6 yard line. the last ball should be served while she is still recovering back. the ball should be a chip shot at medium pace.

this is a timed drill. with seconds being added for poor saves and decisions. this is a very high level drill, and the set time should never be over 40 seconds. Kendal was timed in this drill twice with times of, 35.6 and 31.4 seconds.
