Partial Pressure (30 mins)

Organization:

Players work in 3's

1 ball needed

10x15 yard area

Instructions:

B (the receiver) checks away from ball bringing C (defender) with him.

B checks to ball and receives pass from A (the passer).

B beats C by turning him with 1 of 3 techniques/scenarios demonstrated by the coach.

B then dribbles to the end line (becomes new passer), C (becomes new attacker) checks away taking A (new defender) with him before checking back to receive pass from B and turns A, repeat rotations.

Scenario/techniques:

1-let ball run through legs and cut it to the side of defender with back foot.

2-sheild ball with front foot then fake defender opposite way using a fake-pass/drag push skill to beat him.

3-sheild ball with front foot, push against defender to gain space, wait for himm to press again before executing McGeady skill to beat him at right moment.

Coaching Points:

Quality of check to ball (check shoulder/can you see the pressure given from defender)

Communication verbal and visual (can you ask for ball/tell/show specific part of body want ball played to-back foot?)

Scenario/technique:

1-Can you show hips to suggest laying ball off in one direction/receiving on back foot to draw defender right in before executing the turn.

Try to snap ball back onto the same foot as opposed to letting run through on a diagonal (away from defenders tackling radius).

2-Make distance between ball and defender as big as possible when receiving on front foot (protect ball with body).

Release ball as far as possible when executing the fake pass before 'catching' it executing the drag-push skll around the defender.

Regress the ball backwards towards you on the drag phase of the skill (move ball out of defenders tackling radius).

If when executing the fake-pass the defender opens his legs, drag ball through them to beat him.

3-Make distance between ball and defender as big as possible when receiving on front foot (protect ball with body).

When sheilding ball, push defender back/away from you and regress the ball backwards to create yourself more space/time on ball, then watch for defender reapplying pressure before executing McGeady skill at correct moment.

Make sure the second touch of the skill angles the ball past the defender

Progressions:

Full Pressure (20 mins)

Organization:

2 Pugg goals 15 yards apart

3 x 2 yard gate (attackers gate 'A' 1 yard ahead of defenders gate 'B', passers gate 'C' 20 yards away from goals line.

As many balls as possible by gate C.

Instructions:

Attackers always start from gate A, Defenders from gate B.

1v1, A checks to ball (C) and receives pass.

A must then try to turn/beat B and score in either of the pugg goals.

If B wins ball, tries to play back to target player.

After a goal is scored or the rotations have finished, player A goes to the back of C gate, player B to back of A gate and player C to the back of A gate.

Coaching Points:

Techniques used to beat defender dependant on pressure exerted from him and the pass you receive.

Check shoulder as late as possible/multiple times to get the most up to date visual information you can.

Can you beat the defender with 1 touch (most efficient)?

Progressions:
