5v2/6v4 rondo (20 mins)

Description

Rondo exercise replicating playing out from the back.

Detail

Basic set up depending on player numbers. Shown 5v2 and in position.

Ask players to copy rehearsed patterns against oppostition.

If defenders win it, they're 2v1 in central area.

Progression

1. Add / remove players.

2. Add combinations/conditions i.e. pass back followed by forward pass.

3. Add similar area on other side of pitch to emphasise how it links in to bigger picture i.e. switch of play and player positioning.

CP's

Show players the relevance to the game.

Speed of play.

No.1 pass into furthest player.

High tempo.

3v2/4v2 to play out from back (skill) (30 mins)

Description

7v7 split into 2 areas of 3v2 with central neutral zone of 1v1.

SSG to focus on playing out from the back to progress up ther pitch to create goalscoring opportunities.

Detail

3 defenders look to play 3v2 (4v2 with GK) and play play through their midfield teammate who is unopposed, who plays forward to attacking area and joins in to attack 3v3.

How, when, where, who?

Progressions

1. All defenders must touch the ball before playing forward.

2. Wide defenders can rwtb into middle zone and play forward themselves or play to midfielder. Both can now join the attack 4v3.

3. Central player can run ball through and go 4v3.

4. 1v1 in middle area.

5. Midfield player can rotate with either strikers or defenders but 1 player must be in middle zone before play goes into attack.

6. Defending midfielder can choose to enter defensive area and can recover.

Create and exploit space - create and exploit overloads.

Timing - pass, movement.

Receive to play forward - check shoulder.

Pass firmly to break lines.

Dribbling - touch out of your feet. Big or close touch?

Shots - technique over the ball.

SSG playing out from back (40 mins)

Description

SSG with equal teams looking to play out from the back and through the 3rds.

Detail

Teams can set up as they wish i.e. 2-3-1 v 2-2-2 and must remain in their 3rd when out of possession.

Progressions

1. Out of possession you must remain in your 3rd. In possession, you can move forward following a pass or dribble to create an overload.

2. Midfielder can drop in to defensive area.

3. Team in possession can move up and down accordingly i.e. a CM can drop into defensive 3rd and defender can go forward or CF can drop in.

4. One defender can recover from middle 3rd.

5. remove restrictions.
