Warm Up (15 mins)

Organization:

1.20x20 yard area set up as shown

2.12 players set up as shown

3.1 ball per player

Instructions:

1. Coach calls out a color

2. Players with the corresponding color run with the ball to the opposite side, turn and head back to their side

Coaching Points:

1. Dribble at speed, keeping the ball close

2. Head up and observe situation

3. Avoid collisions by looking around and observing positions of other players

4. When resuming with a positive touch, use laces to push ball away with toe down

Main Theme 1 (20 mins)

Organization:

1. 20 x 20 yard area setup as shown

2. 12 players setup as shown

3. 12 balls

Instructions:

1. Coach will demonstrate the move at game speed then broken down for players to see. 

2. Players dribble ball around area using other players as mock defenders, practicing the move with their right foot then their left.

3. Coach will allow players to work for an allotted amount of time then move on to the next move.

Coaching Points:

Dribbling -Roll

1. Takethe ball inside the opponents tackling radius

2. Dragthe ball across the body with sole of the foot

3. Takethe ball past the defender with inside of the opposite foot

Dribbling -Scissors

1. Movethe foot around the front of the ball finishing on the outside of the ball

2. Dropthe shoulder as the foot plants

3. Takethe ball away using the outside of the opposite foot

Dribbling -Drag Push

1. Dragthe ball back with the sole of the foot

2. Usingthe inside of the same foot, push the ball forwards

Progression:

1. P - Take away half of the balls and allow players to apply pressure

Main Theme 2 (20 mins)

Organization:

1. 20x20 grid

2. Four lines

3. One ball for each line

Instructions:

1. Players will dribble ball to center cones, perform instructed move, excelerating after move until opposite side is reached

2. Players will perform move three times then switch to opposite foot and again perform move three times

3. Move: Scissors

Coaching Points:

Dribbling - Roll

1. Take the ball inside the opponents tackling radius

2. Drag the ball across the body with sole of the foot

3. Take the ball past the defender with inside of the opposite foot

Dribbling - Scissors

1. Move the foot around the front of the ball finishing on the outside of the ball

2. Drop the shoulder as the foot plants

3. Take the ball away using the outside of the opposite foot

Dribbling - Drag Push

1. Drag the ball back with the sole of the foot

2. Using the inside of the same foot, push the ball forwards

1. Semi Opposed

Main Theme 3 (20 mins)

Organization:

1. 20x20 grid set up as shown

2. Odd number of balls in blue square

3. Two players per team, each team is set up on the corner of the field

Instructions:

1. The defender will play the ball into the attacking player.

2. Attacking player will try to beat the defender with one of the moves learned.

3. If attacking player can beat defender and dribble over end line, they receive one point.

4. Player rotate from defender to attacking player

5. Play until a player has reached 10 points

Coaching Points:

1. Commitdefender

2 Knowingwhen to hold, dribble and when to run with the ball

3. Observethe body position of the defender

4. Ifside on attack the front foot

5. Ifsquare push the ball past and accelerate

6. Timingand execution of fake and faints

7. Cutinto space behind defending player once beaten

8. Receivethe ball sideways on when back is to goal

9. Playat speed

Progressions:

P - Players go to goal

P - Defenders are allowed to score if they win ball

Conditioned Game (20 mins)

Organization:

1.30 x 20 yard area set up as shown

2.12 players (3 teams of 4, 1 team resting) set up as shown

3.2 yard deep target area, at each end of field

4.Supply of balls by coach at side of area

Instructions:

1.Teams play 4 v 4, to target zones

2.If player can dribble into target zone, they win the game, and must leave the ball in the zone

3.Losing team immediately comes off, with resting team allowed to start instantly with ball that has been left in target area

4.Team who previously won must all retreat and touch cone in own target area before attempting to defend

5.Teams do not need to wait for other team to be ready, and can attack on transition immediately

6.If ball goes out, coach restarts by serving to player with most space in front of them

Coaching Points:

1. Positive first touch out of the feet

2. Select the appropriate controlling surface

3. Head up and observe situation

4. Head down when playing the ball to ensure good contact

5. Play with the laces of the foot closet to the ball

6. Fewest number of touches to cover the distance quickly

Progressions:

P – Corner markers can be moved to near end of safe zone, thus reducing the distance players must retreat on transition

R – Team must score three points to win, thus allowing conceding team to remain on field, and transition quicker
