Ball Control and Agility Warm-up

Ball Control and Agility

1 minute - Jog while dribbling the ball with quick touches, changing direction and speed. Do this in a confined space where many changes and touches are necessary.

1 minute - Footwork: Inside / Outside

1 minute - Throw the ball up, settle the ball to your feet, establish Inside / Outside footwork and then move (max 5 touches) off quickly by demonstrating a double touch - repeat.

1 minute - Foot Juggling with no spin on ball; Pop challenge if players need practice.

1 minute - Footwork: Box touches with an outside touch

1 minute - Throw the ball up, settle the ball to your feet, establish Box footwork with an outside touch and then move (max 4 touches) off quickly by demonstrating a double touch - repeat.

1 minute - Foot Juggling with no spin on ball; Pop challenge if players need practice.

1 minute - Footwork: Sole-Inside/Outside

1 minute - Throw the ball up, settle the ball to your feet, establish Sole-Inside/Outside footwork  and then move (after performing two Sole-Inside/Outside moves) off quickly by demonstrating a double touch - repeat.

1. If available, practice in an indoor facility (basketball court, racquetball court) or on a tennis court, for speed.

2. 1 minute per skill (Increase to 2 minutes for added cardio workout)

Technical - Unopposed /SemiOpposed (10 mins)

Organization:

10 x 15

4 players per group

2 Balls

Center obstacle set up as shown

Instructions:

1. Player A dribbles towards middle obstacle, performs the given move / technique (Shoulder drop; Ronaldo Chop; Scissors), and joins the end of the opposite line.

2. Player B begins on Player A's eye contact after coming out of the move.

Coaching Points:

1. Static or very controlled approach driving at the defender's front foot. 

2. Timing / Exaggeration of move - just outside tackling radius / shoulder, knee, eyes.

3. Body shape - low center of gravity.

4. Eyes up, identification of space, change of speed, appropriate angle taken for next movement.

Progressions:

(P1) - Players must pass coming out of move.

(P2) - Remove middle cones, partners perform skills on each other (passive pressure)

Technical - Fully Opposed (25 mins)

Organization:

15 x 20 (maybe adjusted to increase/decrease tempo)

4 players per group

Two gates on each endline set up as shown

1 Ball; Extras on the side

Instructions:

1. Defender (blue) dribble to the blue line then plays a short pass to the attacker (yellow).

2. Defender cannot win the ball until the attacker take his first touch.

3. Attacker scores by passing into the goals or dribbling through the gates.

4. Defender scores by stealing the ball and scoring.

5. Players switch lines.

6. First player to 10 wins, switch fields.

Coaching Points:

3v3 Transition (15 mins)

Organization:

30 x 20 (maybe adjusted to increase/decrease tempo)

1 Ball; Extras on the side

Teams of 6, divided into groups of 3

3v3

Instructions:

1. Winner stays on

2. If Blue strikes the ball and it crosses Yellow's defensive line, new yellow on.

3. Winner's must score a goal in less than 1 minute to stay on.
