Ball Control (5 mins)

Organization:

-15-16 players

-full gymnasium

Players working individually on keeping the ball up in the air.

Variations/Progressions:

-start with ball from hands

-allow bounces and catches in between

Key Points:

-Good agility, balance, coordination - on balls of feet

-Good touch/feel of the ball

ABCs (15 mins)

Organization:

-15-16 players

-area: whole gym

-3 ladders, 9 cones

The group is split into 3 teams. The players will work through a variety of agility ladder exercises, with extra challenges progressively added.

Variations/Progressions:

1. Ladder exercises - Rapid Through, High Knees, In Out In Out, Scissors, Hops

2. Add Drop-And-Go Accelerations

3. Add Step Over skill practice

Accelerations on the way back to the start - Mini-Skips, Side Shuffles, Backward Mini-Steps

Key Points:

-Good agility, balance, coordination and speed with movements

Skill Practice (15 mins)

Organization:

-15-16 players

-10x10 area x2

-see diagram for equipment and set up

Players start at the 4 corners of the grid and have to dribble around the outside. When they reach the cone half way between the corners they must perform the Pull Push move. When the players reach their starting position, they must use their ball to knock the ball off the middle cone to win the game.

Progressions/Variations:

-Go in opposite direction

-Change the Stop/Start move

Coaching Points:

-Close control when dribbling

-Good execution of moves

-Accuracy on pass at ball on middle cone

1v1 Game (15 mins)

Organization:

-15-16 players

-Area: Half Gym

-See diagram for equipment and set up

Players split into 2 teams. Play starts with coach playing the ball out into the area. The players must react and 1v1 situation is created. A goal is scored when a player dribbles the ball from outside to inside the Scoring Zone.

Variations/Progressions:

-Both players can come out at the same time

-Team mate can move into scoring zone - player on the ball must pass to team mate through gate into centre to score

Key Points:

-Quick reactions

-Turn to face the defender quickly if possible

-Dribble at defender with speed

-Quick changes of direction/speed

-Acceleration away from defender

-Ball control through gate

-Accurate passing
