Fun warm up game (10 mins)

Organization: Witch hat game.

Area 30x30 yard.

All players with a ball.

1 witch hat cone.

Instructions:

Players dribble inside the area.

Witch ( player with witch hat cone) must knock ball out of the area.

If the ball go out the players become a witch.

Play until last player.

Coaching Points:

Use further foot away from witch to dribble.

Use the sole of the foot to move the ball.

Put your body between the ball and the defender.

Extend arm to keep witch further away.

Progressions:

Add more pressure by playing against time.

Technical shielding (15 mins)

Organization:

2 square of 10x10 with a cone 10 yard away.

2 team of 6 players numbered one to six.

12 balls.

Instructions:

At coach command numbered player dribble to marker, leave the ball and run to the other square to knock all the ball off.

Coaching Points:

Position the body in between the ball and opponent

Stay sideways-on to protect the ball and provide balance

Body weight is on the leg nearest to the defender

Extend the arms to feel for the defender and be a bigger obstacle

Move the ball with furthest surface

Head up to observe available options

2 v 1 (15 mins)

Organization:

Set up as shown. Numbers of players between 9 and 12. Lots of balls.

Instructions:

Red team play 3 v 1 aganist blue team in square A. If they make 5 passes they pass or dribble out of square and find their forward player. This makes a 2v1 situation.

Once this move ends then the ball is served by the Coach to square B and blue team play aganist red.

If defender wins the ball once player exits the square then the play stops.

Coaching Points:

Speed of play, quality of pass, ability to pentrate with pass, awareness of forward on the 5th pass, movement off the ball and end product.

2 v 2 (15 mins)

Organization:

Same as previous screen.

Instructions:

Same as previous screen but once the red player exits the square (with a dribble or pass) then a blue player from square B can also defend to create a 2v2 situation.

Coaching Points:

Same as previous screen but speed of play become important now with a 2nd defender recovering to defend.

Progressions:

Time limit of 10 seconds to score once exiting the sqaure.

3 v 2 (20 mins)

Organization:

Same set up as previous two screens but put an additional player in the central midfield area.

Instructions:

On the 5th pass the ball must be played to the central midfield player for that team. A red player from square B releases himself and the central midfield player plays a diagonal pass into the path of that player. The player that played the pass from square A also joins in the attack to make a 3 v 2 situation. A defender from any square can also recover to defend.

Coaching Points:

Same points as previous two screens but communication is very important for the defending team.

Progressions:

Time limit on play of 10 seconds to score.
