Passing & Receiving (10 mins)

Unopposed Passing & Receiving

Players work in groups of three. P1 passes to middle player (P2) who controls ball, turns & passes to P3. P3 returns pass to P2 who turns and passes to P1. After 2 mins rotate positions. P2 should open body, receive ball on back foot, turn & pass with other foot.

Progression:

P1 & P3 side step cone to cone whilst waiting for ball.

Key Coaching Points:

1 - Correct weight of pass & accuracy, using inside of foot.

2 - Two touch passing (control/ pass)

3 - P2 adjusts body to receive ball with back foot & turn

4 - Communication (vocal & eye contact)

Three Player Attack - Unopposed (10/15 mins)

Three player attack

Very similar concept as previous drill but in game situation.

P1 (left player) passes to P2 (middle player), P2 passes to P3 (right player). P3 decides to shoot or pass back to another player to shoot. All three players attack goal until ball is scored/ out of bounds. After each go, players rotate to join different line.

Progressions:

Limit touches on ball and who can shoot

Start ball with different player (adjust routine)

Key Coaching Points

1 - Accurate passing ahead of player.

2 - P1 to run to back post in anticipation of rebound/ loose shot.

3 - P2 to run down middle for possible cross from P3.

3 - All players to stick to specific area, not bunch!

Three Player Attack - Opposed

Same set up as before but with two defenders. P1 starts with ball but can dribble/ pass/ shoot depending on defenders. 3 v 2 attack to goal. Once players are familiar with drill add two goals out wide for defenders to score in (encouraging them to clear to the sides).

Progressions:

Add/ take away defenders or make defenders passive (can only pressure ball, not kick it)

Limit touches for attackers

Key Coaching Points

1 - Team work - are players supporting each other & making good runs? Not bunching or taking ball from each other

2 - Communication - are players calling for the ball and talking to team mates.

3 - Technique - are the players using the correct techniques to pass/shoot/dribble NO TOES!
