Functional Practice (20 mins)

Organisation:

Due to the age of the players there is no opposition in this practice except for the GK

This to generate success in the practice but also to develop confidence in heading the ball from a cross.

Practice starts by the coach serving a ball into a possession area 5 v 1.

The 5 players keep possession by transferring the ball inside the area. As the ball is passed the ST maintains height but works across the field looking to receive a pass from inside the area.

Once the pass is made the ST sets the ball for the crossing player who follows their original forward pass.

Two other players sprint into the box looking to get on the end of a cross and score.

Once the ball is dead those players recover back inoto the possession area.

Coaching Points:

The coaching at this age group is limited; only that the crosses need to be varied and of good quality.

Encourage the players t come meet the ball in the air.

GK cannot come to collect the cross only save the shot.

Safe technique while heading the ball.
