Description

Focus: Affecting the player's decision when pressure (and cover) may be loose or tight, and how to break the defense line, via a move 1v1 or combination.

Amount of Pressure: Low Press, 2v1 scenario. Isolated a defender.

Type of Pressure: Loose.

Pressure's Loose

> Pressure in front.

> Turn and face. Commit player.

> Isolating a defender, in a 1v1 scenario where if needed player can combine with another teammate on a 2v1.

> Width - to stretch out the other team.

> Depth - Support.

> Length - Create space to enter into.

Moves: (A) Shoulder Feint; (B) Inside-Outside.  * Outside touch = pass to teammate *

Decisions looking to affect:

1. Ability to identify amount of pressure being applied to the ball, as the player receives it.

2. Choice to open up on the back foot - closer to the opponent, or receive the ball on the front foot to protect the ball and shield it away from the defender.

3. Recognition of the second defender. Is the second defender in a good spot to cover the first defender if I beat him/her? If so, do Ihave a supporting player I can pass the ball to?

4. Mentality after passing the ball. Can you quickly signal to your teammate for a Give and Go to get around the defender, or support their run and prepare yourself for the cross?

3. Next player in the middle plays to the opposite player at the top of the "Y".

Rotation: is that the players A-B-C-A

Progression 2

1. Same rotation and setup as previous.

2. Now we will look for the player to take a touch to one side, this will now determine the movement and the next pass of the player in the middle.

Progression 3

1. Setup is now 2 players in the middle of the field, with 1 attacker and 1 passive defender.

2. And now one player at the 3rd line.

3. The passive defender will not be looking to win the ball. Now we will looking to work on the movement of all lines in coordination.

Technical Repetition: Fully Opposed

Organization:

4 cones setup in a Y shape as shown

10 yards apart

Groups of 4-5 players

Instructions:

1. This is a progression to now add in now a live defender

2. For the attacking team to score a point they must be able to play the ball into the 3rd line, without the defender winning the ball.

Restrictions: (1) All attacking players are on 2 touch maximum; (2) Defender is live but their movement is restricted to be only able to play side to side. Look to block the pass, but not tackle.

Coaching Points:

1. Can we look to play through the lines into the 3rd line as a first option, without forcing it.

2. Movement off the 2nd line to create a passing lane or a angle/line to receive the ball

3. If pressure is loose on the 2nd line (passing lane to the 3rd target has been blocked), look to receive on back foot and play the pass with the alternate foot. However, this may change due to the recovery pressure of the defender.

4. Patience with the shape to maintain options for player in possession

Progressions:

(P2) - Defender is able to move in all directions, if they win the ball they score a point by dribbling across a counter line.
