Warm Up (10 mins)

Organization:

- Two teams

- Six lines (three per team)

- Two goals

- Two soccer balls

Instructions:

On coaches command, the first three players in each team race against the opposition. A point is awarded to the first team to have their wide attacker dribble two lengths of the penalty box and the two central attackers crossover and touch the opposite goalposts and back.

Coaching Points:

Wide Attacker:

- Postive first touch forward

- Positive touches out in front

- Lift head up

Central Attackers:

- Mentality (forward thinking, ruthelss)

- Quick reactions

- Take shortest possible route

Progressions:

- Goalkeepers tag players inside 6-yard box

Main Activity (20 mins)

Organization:

- Two teams

- Six lines (three per team)

- Two goals

- Three cones

- Supply of balls (at wide attackers)

Instructions:

The wide attacker dribbles the ball towards the goal line and delivers cross the ball into the 'killer zone' (area between the goal line and cones) for either of the two central attackers to score. The opposition team transition towards the opposite goal as soon as a goal is scored or the ball is out of bounds. A point is awarded for each goal.

Coaching Points:

Wide Attacker:

- Postive first touch forward

- Positive touches out in front

- Lift head up

- Assess speed, angle and timing of supporting runs

- Quality of delivery (type, timing, weight, trajectory) into 'killer zone'

Central Attackers:

- Mentality (forward thinking, ruthless)

- Quick reactions

- Take shortest possible distance

- Speed, angle and timing of runs into 'killer zone'

- Awareness of wide attacker - recycling of runs

- Quality of finish (type, precision, execution)

Progressions:

- One touch finish only

- On coaches command, wide attacker performs two changes of direction

- Introduction of defender

Conditioned Play (20 mins)

- Two teams

- Two goals

- Four wide zones

Instructions:

6 vs. 6 game with 4 wide target players. Two points awarded for a finish from a cross inside either of the two attacking wide zones, one point for a goal from open play.

Coaching Points:

Wide Attacker:

- Postive first touch forward

- Positive touches out in front

- Lift head up

- Assess speed, angle and timing of supporting runs

- Quality of delivery (type, timing, weight, trajectory) into 'killer zone'

Central Attackers:

- Mentality (forward thinking, ruthless)

- Take shortest possible distance

- Speed, angle and timing of runs into 'killer zone'

- Awareness of wide attacker - recycling of runs

- Quality of finish (type, precision, execution)

Progressions:

- One touch finish only

- Wide attackers can support back post

- Wide players play 1v1 inside full length of wide zone
