Possession (15 mins)

Organization:

20x20 yard area

12 players - 4v4 to targets

3 mins work

30 second rest

3 sets

Instructions:

Teams play 4v4 with two targets on the outside

When a target player passes the ball inside they join - the player nearest takes there place as target on the outside

All players play two touch

Goals are scored by connecting with both players on the outside

Coaching Points:

Movement to create options for entry pass inside

Body shape to open up and play forward

Progressions:

One touch on the outside

4v3 (15 mins)

Organization:

50x44 yard area

Players are divided into two teams - 12 players per team

Instructions:

The goalkeeper serves the ball to the attacking team

The attacking team plays 4v3 to goal

If the defending team wins the ball they must serve the ball to the opposite the goalkeeper and the practice re-starts in the opposite direction with a new group of players

Coaching Points:

Speed of play - speed of action - can you score in one or two actions

1st Attacker - commit defend to the ball

2n Attacker - angle and distance of support to combine

3rd Attacker - runs behind to unbalance

Progressions:

Allow defending group to win the ball and play 3v4 to opposite goal

4v3 - Full Field (30 mins)

Organization:

Full field - with a 20x20 yard area set up centrally

Two teams of 12 players = 24 players Or can be varied

Instructions:

Teams play 6v3 in the central area - one touch

The team must make five passes before playing out to checking strike

The striker can receive the first pass unopposed

Three players then join to make 4v3

If the defending group wins the ball they play out to there strike in the opposite direction and play 4v3 to goal

Off side applies

Coaching Points:

No 9 - Timing of the check - read cues

No 9 - Angle should allow you to play more than one option

1st Attacker - commit defender to the ball

2n Attacker - angle and distance of support

3rd Attacker - unbalance with runs in behind

Progressions:

First pass into striker can be challenged

Attacking teams have the option to pass or dribble out of the central area

Play numbers even 4v4 by adding a defender
