Ball Control (5 mins)

Organization:

-15-16 players

-9 5x5 grids

-20 cones

Players working on keeping the ball up in the air.

Variations/Progressions:

-start with ball from hands

-allow bounces and catches in between

Key Points:

-Good agility, balance, coordination - on balls of feet

-Good touch/feel of the ball

ABCs (10 mins)

Organization:

-15-16 players

-Whole gym - with four 5x5 grids in the corners, and one in the centre

-16 cones, 7 balls

The group is split into 4 teams. They have to send one player out at a time to steal a ball (picking it up with hands), initially from the centre, but then the other teams and return it to their team base. First team to have 4 balls wins. Play multiple times.

Variations/Progressions:

-Movements - running, skipping, side shuffling, grapevines, back-pedalling, zig-zags

-Add more balls

Key Points:

-Good agility, balance, coordination and speed with movements

-Awareness of space and players around them

Same as the previous activity, but now using feet.

Variations/Progressions:

-Ball Mastery - inside/outside cuts, ball-boxing, toe-taps, sole rolls

Key Points:

-Close control

-Lots of touches

-Using all parts of the foot

-Head up to scan the space

Coerver Moves (15 mins)

Organization:

-15-16 players

-10x10 grid (x2)

Working in groups of 7-8. Two players at each corner, they dribble into the centre and perform move then dribble/pass back.

Variations/Progressions:

1. Dribble there - Inside/Outside Cut - Dribble back

2. Dribble there - Inside/Outside Cut - Pass back

3. Dribble there - Inside/Outside Cut - Dribble to your left/right

Key Points:

-Close control

-Lots of touches

-Using all parts of the foot

-Head up to scan the space

-Execute moves

-Accurate passes

1v1 Game (15 mins)

Organization:

-15-16 players

-approx.10x8 grid (x3)

Player A passes out to Player B, creating a 1v1 situation. Must dribble through either of the opposition's end gates to score a goal. Extra point for using a change of direction move.

Variations/Progressions:

-can pass through the gate

Key Points:

-Firm/accurate pass

-Good first touch

-Dribble at defender with speed

-Quick changes of direction/speed

-Acceleration away from defender

-Ball control through gate

-Accuracy to pass through the gate
