Warm--Up (20 mins)

Organization

Divide players in two groups. Group one players have 1 ball each and dribble through the central cones. They then pass to players from group 2 on the outside. Outside players play pass on 1 touch back to passing players.

a) One/two pass

b) Player receiving ball back from outside player takes the ball on inside of foot (on half turn)

c) Player receiving ball back from outside player takes the ball on outside of foot (on half turn)

Coaching Points:

1) Avoid movement in straight lines moving through cones

2) Check over both shoulders when receiving

3) Quality passing - accuracy/pace/timing

4) Communication

5) Good tempo

SAQ (10 mins)

Organization:

Players work in pairs. Place four cones on outside of each grid and one cone in middle. Player 1 (Blue) leads and player 2 (Red) has to react and match the movements of player 1. Player 1 aims to fake and get player 2 off balance before stepping on a cone. Player 2 attempts to match player1's speed to reach the corresponding cone in their grid at same Players work for 1 minute, then switch roles.

Progression:

Coach assigns a sequence for touching cones with hands. Players then race to complete the sequence quickest. Can also vary between touching cones with hands or feet. Make it competetive amongst the group ie players race v different partners and player with most wins is teh quickest

Coaching Points:

1)Importance of 1st step – use back leg as spring

2) Drive towards next traget (cone) by pumping arms

3)Keep head steady

4)On toes - stay off heals

5) Quick thinking, think ahead for next movement

Technique (20 mins)

Organization:

Players divided into two teams. Coach serves ball into team 1 who send out 2 attackers to play versus 1 defender. If the defender wins the ball they can score in opposite goal to the one they defend. For the next play the attackers play the ball forward to the two attackers (from the 1st phase of play) and join the attack to create a 3v2, as another defender also comes out. Play continues to a 4v3, 5v4 etc.

Coaching Points:

1)Close space quickly

2)Push opponents outside (away from goal)

3)Close gaps between defenders (proper distances)

4)Communication amongst defensive group

1)Close space quickly (touch tight)

2)See man, ball, body positon

3)Composure/patience

SSG (20 mins)

Organization:

Players divided into two teams. Coach plays ball into 3 attackers who attack the goal versus 1 defender. Two defenders have a starting position behind the attackers and get goal side as soon as possible.

Coaching Points:

1)1st defender slows attackers and protects central area

2)Recovering defenders get goal side as soon as possible

3)Push attackers away from goal

4)Composure/patience

5)Communication

Let them play! For quick transition, set the condition that once score must then attack the opposite goal
