Warm-Up: Rondo (10 mins)

Description

Keep players in a big enough circle to be successful. For younger or less able groups, start without a defender. The important points to get right first are:

- 2 touch max

- Do not let the ball stop rolling

- Do not pass straight back to the person who passed to you

This should begin to develop the basic skills needed to be successful against 1 defender. You can start the defender as a 'passive defender'. This will likely need to be you as the coach because the kids will want to win the ball back.

If necessary, make multiple circles. I prefer no more than 6 - 8 players in the circle.

Activity 1: Pass and Receive (10 mins)

Description

Set up 2 different colored cones 3 yards apart. Line up a couple of players 5 yards away on a seperate cone. 1 player stands between the colored cones. The first person in line passes to the Player between the cones and calls a color. The player must receive the ball with one touch taking it towards (around the outside of) that color cone. They then dribble to the back of the line, the passer takes their place.

Can be progressed to opposite colors, and/or competition - first line to make 10 passes.

Coaching Points

Check in and out. It is important that the receiving player has enough space to be able to guide the ball around the cone with one touch - the angle must be right. If they are standing directly between the cones or too close to the, then it will fail. Have them back up.

Pass and Receive with inside of the foot.

Activity 2: Passing Combination (20 mins)

Decription

10x15 field. Players start off by passing from the center back to the defensive mid, to the attacking mid and then to the forward. Body position and passing technique should be focused on. Keep girls of similar skill level in each group. Change the combinations.

Challenge

- Have the groups see how many passes they can make in a row withouth the ball going out the box

- Which team can get the ball from one side to the other (touching all players) the most times in a minute.

- As many passes as you can in 2 minutes. If the ball goes out the box, start from zero.

SSG: 3v3 (w/ Wide Channels) (15 mins)

Description

18x25. There must be a player in each channel at all time. You can switch channels, but your teammate must also switch. Communication is key.

Let's look to re-inforce the tactical elements that we have worked on:

- Check in / out to create space and lose your defender

- Play at different heights to create passing angles

- 1st Priority = Dribble into space

- 2nd Priority = Pass forward

- 3rd Priority = Pass to the side

- 4th Priority = Pass back

Just because a back pass in the 4th priority, it doesn't mean we should exclude it. Keeping possession is the most important.

Progressions

- Play 4v4 with 2 Center Mids, make the middle channel wider.

- Secure the first pass: When a wide player wins the ball, they must look to make their first pass backwards to the center back (therefore away from danger) and slowly build from there.
