Coaching Points

Attack the space in front of you. Cover the ground as quickly as possible, use laces when running at speed, keep your head up, feint to stop or turn and then accelerate if appropriate, run with the ball if you have space in front of you, get defender off balance with feint/move then accelerate past, combine with team mates.

Screen 1 (20 mins)

Player A starts by passing the ball into Player B who sets it back for A to RWTB down field. Once down field A plays to Player C who passes to Player D. Player D plays a give and go and releases Player E who runs at pace down field and cuts the ball back for Player F to arc their run and finish on goal.

Player Rotations: A to C, B to A, C to D, D to E, E to F, F to B

Variation:

Player's B and D can apply passive pressure to the players rwtb.

Coaching Points:

Can you use your laces/outside of feet when running at speed

Can you get your head up whilst running at pace to identify where your team-mate is

Can you excelerate away when receiving the ball

Can you use a feint to bet the defender

Skill Training (30 mins)

Play 4v4 and a wide man in each channel. If odd numbers play with Joker. Set up pitch as shown. Adjust pitch size to depending on numbers.

The blue and white team play posession in central midfield area and when the opportunity presents itself, the ball is played out to either of the wide men (orange players) in the channel. (killer pass opportunity??). The team that manages to play the ball out are the attackers and the other team must defend the big goal.

Wide player runs at pace to the goal line (unchallenged) and looks to either drive a cross hard and low to the edge of the six yard box or pulls it back to the incoming forward, Players are only allowed into the penalty box square after the ball has been played out wide.

Opposite wide player should also look to get into the far post in case the ball reached him.

Swap wide players regularly.

Coaching Points:

Don't miss the opportunity to switch play

Wide man to attack at pace with correct technique to the line

Wide man to get head up to decide whether to drive ball accross six yard box or pull it back

Attackers make sure someone sits out a bit for the pullback

Time your run so you attack the cross

THE DRIVEN CROSS: pays the highest dividends when the flank player has outpaced the defence and reached the goal-line while the defenders are recovering at speed but have yet to reach the six-yard line.

THE PULL-BACK: The best time to use the pull-back is when defenders have recovered into the six-yard box but there is space available betwenn the six-yard line and t he edge of the penalty-area.

Skill Game (30 mins)

Skill Game:

Keep the channels and the wide-men (they play for both teams and are the only ones allowed in the channels). Take away the penalty area square and have a goal at each end. Encourage players to switch ball to wide men and observe if correct decisions are being made at end of run.

Last 20 minutes remove wide channels and let them play.
