Football/Soccer Session Plan Drill (Colour): Passing Drill: Give and Go
Save Image: Football/Soccer Session Plan Drill (Colour): Passing Drill: Give and Go

Passing Drill: Give and Go (20 mins)

Coaching Points Player A:

Dribble the ball up to the field with some speed | Pass the ball to the far foot of Player B | Call for the drop | Step back to create space in front of you | One touch pass to send Player B or take a first touch to the inside (away from the defender to create a passing channel) and then send Player B | Coach Player B to "take the space" or "Get up the field".

.

Coaching Points Player B:

Wait with showing for the ball until Player A is dribbling the ball up the field | Show with your back to the sideline, so you can see Player A, The defender and the space up the field | Call for the ball on your far foot | One touch drop to get the ball back to Player A | Call for the send up the field | Run onto the ball and get a first touch going forward

.

Methodical Steps:

Easier: Player B is allowed to receive the ball before dropping the ball back to Player A | Make the distance between the player smaller

Harder: Make the distance between the players bigger | Increase the speed of play, stronger passes

Football/Soccer Session Plan Drill (Colour): 2v1 to goal
Save Image: Football/Soccer Session Plan Drill (Colour): 2v1 to goal

2v1 to goal (25 mins)

Focus:

Priority 1: Beat the defender using the 2v1 situation

Priority 2: If we are consistently winning the 2v1, focus on the finishing when going 1v1 with the goalkeeper

.

Creating the situation:

- Player B and Player C have to stay in the box until Player A has passed/dribbled the ball into the box.

- Player C has to pressure the ball when the ball is in the box (and on the possible drop to player A)

- Player D cannot get outside the 18 yards box

.

Coaching Points Player A:

Dribble the ball up to the field with some speed.

.

Option 1: The defender is blocking the pass to Player B, you take the ball up the field yourself | Accelerate to seperate from the defender, take the ball to the goal | If the defender closes in on you, see if you can send player B with a diagonal pass, if the defender does not close in you dribble at the far post, across the goal, keep your head up. Get as close to the goal as possible and finish in the low corners.

Option 2: The defender is blocking your dribbling to the gial, pass the ball to the far foot of Player B | Call for the drop | Step back to create space in front of you | One touch pass to send Player B or take a first touch to the inside (away from the defender to create a passing channel) and then send Player B | Coach Player B to "take the space" or "Get up the field".

.

Coaching Points Player B:

Make sure to show a little to the side of where player A will dribble up the field so the defender has to chose who to mark | Show with your back to the sideline, so you can see Player A, The defender and the space up the field. | Call for the ball on your far foot |

.

Option 1: If there is enough space, turn and take the ball up the field | Accelerate to seperate from the defender going to the goal | Dribble at the far post, across the goal, keep your head up| Get as close to the goal as possible and finish in the low corners.

Option 2: If the defender is on you, one touch drop to get the ball back to Player A. Call for the send up the field | Run onto the ball and get a first touch going forward | Dribble at the far post, across the goal, keep your head up| Get as close to the goal as possible and finish in the low corners.

.

Methodical Steps

Easier: Force Player C to Block Player A or block the pass to Player B, to make choices to be made more predictable | Player C in only allowed to play defense in the box, if the attacking teams gets in behind this player the defender is not allowed to pressure

Harder: Player C does not have to pressure the ball when it is passed/dribbled into the box | Coaching Player C (see coaching points below) | Player D is allowed to get outside the box to intercept the pass up the field

.

Coaching Points Player C:

Position in between Player A and Player B, inside the box | Cut of the pass to player B, to create a 1v1 instead of a 2v1

.

Option 1, Player A keeps the ball: Wait long with pressuring player A, always keep cutting off the pass to player B | When you close in Player A, be quick close down all the space Player A has to possible pass the ball up the field | Contain and force to the outside, away from Player B | Never allow player A to turn and cut back to the inside, towards Player B. | If Player A has a "bad" touch, get in between player A and the ball. If Player A does not have a bad touch, initiate shoulder to shoulder contact with the shoulder that is blocking the pass to player B

Option 2, Player A passes the ball to player B: Drop back behind the ball to be goal sided | When the ball is passed back to player A, see option 1.

2v1 on the wing to cross to 2 forwards (25 mins)

Focus:

Priority 1: Beat the outside defender on the wing to come to a cross

Priority 2: If we are consistently winning the 2v1 on the wing, focus on the cross and positioning in front of the goal

.

Creating the situation:

- Player B and Player C have to stay in the box until Player A has passed/dribbled the ball into the box.

- Player C has to pressure the ball when the ball is in the box (and on the possible drop to player A)

- Player D cannot get outside the goalkeeper box

.

Coaching Points Player A:

Dribble the ball up to the field with some speed.

.

Option 1: The defender is blocking the pass to Player B, you take the ball up the field yourself | Accelerate to seperate from the defender, take the ball to the goal | If the defender closes in on you, see if you can send player B with a diagonal pass, if the defender does not close in you dribble into he 18 yard box, getting ready to shot or cross the ball.

| Call for the ball on your far foot |

.

Option 1: If there is enough space, turn and take the ball up the field | Accelerate to seperate from the defender going to the goal | Dribble into the 18 yard box, keep your head up| Get as close to the goal as possible and cross the bal or shot it yourself.

Option 2: If the defender is on you, one touch drop to get the ball back to Player A. Call for the send up the field | Run onto the ball and get a first touch going forward | Dribble into the 18 yard box, keep your head up| Get as close to the goal as possible and cross the bal or shot it yourself.

.

Coaching Points Players E:

Wait for Player A and Player B beat Player C on the wing | When the player coming through on the wing dribbles into the box cross (Near and Far Post run) in front of the goal | One touch finish in the lower corners

.

Methodical Steps

Easier: Force Player C to Block Player A or block the pass to Player B, to make choices to be made more predictable | Player C in only allowed to play defense in the box, if the attacking teams gets in behind this player the defender is not allowed to pressure

Harder: Coaching Player C (see coaching points below) | Having 2 players who play in the Player F position, allowing 1 of them to support Player C.

.

Coaching Points Player C:

Block Player A dribbling/passing up the field | When the ball is being passed to Player B, drop back goalsided | Do not commit to the ball, but close in the space in front of Player B staying goal sided. | When the ball is passed back the Player A, sit back and block the pass/dribble up the field again
