Catching above head (5 mins)

Set Up

Two goals - One in usual play and the other on edge of 18 yard box. Use width of 6 yard box as a guide to edge of box. Four servers will operate on the outside with plenty of balls available.

How to Play

- The ball is served in, team in possession aim to bounce the ball off the opposition crossbar for 1 point.

- Defending team can intercept but not grab ball from oppositions hands.

- If point/goal is scored, play starts from server.

- Player in possession of ball can't run with it.

Progressions

- Ball must be played to a server before hitting crossbar.

- Can use head to score in the goal.

- Play on ground and in hands - can't pick ball up, it must end in hands naturally.

Punching

Set Up

Goal on edge of 18 yard box with an equal number of servers, punchers, ball collecters. Have plenty of balls available in the goal for servers.

How to Play

Servers serve ball up for punchers to punch over the bar - looking for accuracy and distance. Swap every couple of minutes.

Progession

The three collectors attempt to catch the ball with no bounce whilst the punchers look to get good distance and accuracy.

Player tasks

- Make punch at highest point

- Strong punch using whole of surface

- Punch through the ball

Punching 2

Set Up

Goal on edge of 18 yard box with an equal number of punchers on each team. Have plenty of balls available in the goal for servers.

How to Play

Severs serve ball in to GK 1 who punches over the opposition bar then rotates to so GK 2 is next to go.

Progressions

Swap sides so you use right and left hand.

Move into a game - 3v3.

- If you can't catch, punch away! If you can catch, try to score by throwing ball on to crossbar/header into goal/volley - must go through server first.

Player Tasks

Punch the ball away with distance and accuarcy.

Set Up

Create a field 30 metres long and using the width of the 18 yard box.

Four servers - type of cross

1 - In-swinger for goal 1

2 - Out-swinger goal 1

3 - Out-swinger for goal 2

4 - In-swinger for goal 2

Punching 3

Set Up

1 coach to call name of server and type of cross.

How to Play

Servers cross ball in:

Inswinger - attackers put high pressure on GK. Defender picks up player on GK while other two mark up.

Outswinger - no pressure on GK.

Attackers - score

Defenders - defend

Inswinger - defender to stop attacker taking GK space.
