Shadow Play

Challenge

Teams play with a ball each, unopposed. All players have to be involved in patternes of play with a shot at goal the outcome.

Progress to one team with ball, one team adds pressure and can intercept. No tackling.

Coaching points (attacking)

2. How can CM affect play (drop into space, open body)

3. Can ST try to recieve the ball behind defenders

4. Decision - feet or space

5. Can you play with tempo

Coaching points (defending)

1. Nearest player

Passing patternes are:

1. Def - WP - ST - WP (one-two) and play from there

2. Def - ST - CM - WP (third man running) and play from there

3. Def - CM - WP and play from there

4. Def - ST - CM and play from there

5. Mix patterns up

Technical

1. Type of run to apply pressure (straight line)

2. When to make smaller steps and slow down

3. Distance & body shape of player applying pressure

4. Angle and distance of supporting player

Reinforce the following points

1. Receiving skills with different surfaces of body

2. Sending skills with different parts of feet

3. Body shape to receive

4. Play with tempo

5. Quick, short sharp passes

6. Practice one-two's, takes, round the corners, no touch turn's, set passes, in between passes & using inside/outside of both feet

6v6 in a 3 zone pitch

Challenge

Players locked into areas. Allow ball to be played out from defensive 1/3. Blue team try to play forward, Whites try to recognise

when to win the ball back.

Progression – pass in join in

Technical detail

1. Recognising who is nearest man - Travel as ball travels, slowing feet down and smaller steps as the ball gets near to attacker

2. Straight line run towards attacker

3. Body shape, knees bent

4. Arm length away from attacker if possible - too close and attacker could roll off you!

5. Understand what success is (no turn, delay, block, tackle)

6. Angle/distance of second defender

7. Marking - ball side & goal side

Challenge

Reds look to play into blue to find their team mate. Whites seek to intercept pass, spoil or block. If whites regain, look to play to teammate.

Progression – White drops to play 2 v 1 against reds
