Warm Up

Session Area

Coaches used half of indoor 3G court. Approximately a third of 11 a side pitch area used.

Set Up

Players simply jogged around area.

Asked to perform a number of dynamic warm up moves including: opening the gate, closing the gate, forward roll - sprint 5 yards - stop.

Ball then included for players. Task for players to throw ball in the air, perform a forward roll and catch the ball after only one bounce.

Challenges

Final progression of warm up involved speed and agility work in pairs.

Players had to hold both right hands together and with their free left hand aim was to tap opposite players knee or foot. The link of right hands can never be broken.

Compeitive and fun part of warm up which all included fast speed and agility from players.

Technical Work

Session Area

Using same full area as in prior warm up using whole half of 3/4 pitch.

Set Up

Players dribbling round area and had to peform following skills when asked by coaches:

Push Pull

Drag out - both feet

scissors (step overs)

Key Points

Players encouraged to look up and stay tall when producing a number of these techniques and try as best as possible not to look at the ball.

Progression

Players then progressed to work with a partner. One player was in posession of the ball (red above) defender (yellow) stood around five yards away from player.

Reds aim was to use yellow as a passive defender to drible towards and produce a skill. Each time a skill was produced players roles simply switched.

Technical 2

Session Area

Same as prior.

Set Up

Players continue to work in pairs but defenders are now active. Reds aim is to dribble through as many coned goals as possible in one minute. If yellow defender wins ball they then become the attacker red defeder.

Key Points

Awareness of defednder, goals and other partners also in play.

Decision making as to when and where to prduce previous skills learnt in technique phase.

Challenges

Which player can score the most goals in each minute period.

Small Sided Games

Session Area

2 pitches 25 yard by 20 yards set up with two small goal targets either end.

Set Up

2 v 2 in the middle area with two floater players (known as magic men) on either outside line.

Reds attacking one goal with yellows the opposite. Before could score players had to get the ball to both blue players either side before could score.

Aim is to switch the play quick between the two outside players and then score quickly.

Key Points

Side on body shape when recieveing from an outside blue.

Always show awareness looking over shoulder looking to turn on the ball.

When turning look to turn on back foot and play pass to opposite blue quickly.

Challenges

3 minute games before switching players on the outside. Which team can score the most goals.

Blue players on outside limited to 2/1 touches. Same rule to scoring a goal.
