Handling and Footwork

This practice is used to warm the goalkeeper as well as getting them used to moving thier feet and using the correct hand position. The goalkeeper starts at the back cone.

-The goalkeeper performs footwork through the discs.

-The goalkeeper touches the cone and moves into the middle to recieve a serve from S

Seves can include Volleys, Half volleys, Passes,and Kicks from the ground.

Similarly to the previous practice the goalkeeper starts at the back and performs footwork through the cones. At the end of the cones the goalkeeper touches the cone and responds to a shot from S

For shots to the far cone, allow the goalkeeper to start moving before shooting, For shots in the middle of the cones, shoot as the goalkeeper touches the cone.

Responding to Shots.

In this practice, cone (2) has been added. In this practice, the goalkeeper again starts behind the back cone. The server calls a cone, the goalkeeper must move to this cone and recover for a shot from the server.

If there is more than 1 server. a second shot can be added. For experienced goalkeepers cones (1) & (3) can become secondary goals, connected to the goalposts.

Diving Distances

This drill is used to encourage the goalkeeper to use different forms of diving dependant on the distance they need to cover.

This practice can be done forwards, backwards, and one side at a time. Different shots can be used as well, including bouncing shots, ground shots and arial shots.

In this practice, the goalkeeper starts on the back cone. The goalkeeper moves to touch (1) and dives to recieve a serve at (2). The goalkeeper then returns to the start before moving to (2) and diving to (1).

Each time the goalkeeper moves to a new cone, the shot should be served to the opposite cone. (1) -> (2) should be a simple colapsing save. (5) -> (6) will need a few steps and a push to reach the ball.
