Warm Up (10 mins)

Organization:

-Every Player with ball in 20x30 grid

Instructions:

PART I:

-Players are introduced to Messi and Ronaldo touches, choosing the correct time for each, ie close spaces use messi touches, open space use ronaldo touches.

-After a few minutes, challenge is introduced. Players now race to 50+ touches using Messi, Ronaldo, or a combination of the two.

PART II:

-Players dribble throughout area using any part of foot and wait for different commands

1) Change-When coach shouts change players must leave their ball and find a new one

2) Outside- When coach yells outside all players must dribble out of the boundary stop the ball and come back in.

Coaching Points:

-Head up to see available space

-Keep ball close when in crowded area (can you take a touch every step you take)

-If see good area of space take bigger touch/accelerate into it

-Use correct dribbling technique (pinky toe touches, knee over ball)

Progressions:

-If lose ball outside of area, or hit another player/ball you lose 10 counts in race to 50.

Main Theme1 (20 mins)

Organization:

-4 cones in the middle of the area, 4 groups

-Each player has a ball

Instructions:

-On Coaches command, players dribble out to the cone, perform turn and return to their starting point, when they reach starting point the next person in line goes.

-Perform pull back, inside turn and outside turn. Depending on skill level can focus on cruyff, more advanced turns.

Coaching Points:

-Close Control

-Head Up (check over shoulder to assess space and pressure)

-Accelerate after the turn

-Lower your body to give a better platform to accelerate

Progressions:

-Make into a race

-Remove 4 cones in middle and place down just 1 cone

-Now players are forced to turn with more traffic, pressure

Regression:

-Have all balls in center players race to perform turn and return as many balls as possible to their group.

-Reasons for need to turn - into space & away from danger

-Inside cut

-Outside cut

-Pullback/Dragback

Main Theme 2 (20 mins)

Organization:

-Place two goals facing away from each other.

- Leave enough space in between the goals for players to challenge each other for the ball

Instructions:

- Coach sends a ball to the middle and players go after the ball to play a 1v1

Coaching Points:

- If you feel pressure, turn away

- Turn away using correct foot

- Use body to protect the ball

Conditioned Game (20 mins)

Organization:

-30 x30 grid

-3v3 4v4

-extra balls

Instructions:

-One attempts to score in goals labeled A and the other in goals labeled B these goals can be different colors so that players can easily visualize where they are trying to score.

Coaching Points:

- Controlled aproach

- Appropriate turn to protect or change direction

- Bend knees to create a platform to accelerate

- Turn into space

- Take away with the nearest foot and surface

- Head up after turning for next action

Progressions:

- Take two goals and move to free play

Free Play (20 mins)

Organization:

- 30 x 25 yard area with two pugg goals organized as shown in the diagram above.

Instructions:

- 3v3 to goal.
