Warm up

Dynamic Warm Up

Two even numbered lines at either side of the cone

Everything gets performed two times

Sequence:

- Light jog

- Side step (both directions)

- Heel flicks

- High knees

- Open the gates

- Close the gates

- Big kicks (alternate hands to feet)

- Backwards jog to the 2nd cone then turn and sprint

- Slow jog to the 2nd cone then sprint

Circle up & static stretch what you need

Defending Basics

Defensive Unit Basics

Set up: Blue work as defence (flat back four), White work as attackers and Red are servers

Red passes ball into White, whoever they pass to, the defender opposite has to come out and pressure the ball. TOnce a player comes out and pressures the ball and the ball leaves his area, he gets back into the defensive shape. The attackers keep passing the ball sqaure to work the defence

- Re-inforce Pressure/Cover/Balance

- 1st Defender & 2nd Defender

- Shape

6v4

Counter to Goal

The exercise now turns into a 6 v 4 with White and Red attacking the Blue defenders.

Make sure each defender gets a turn to press before playing out wide

CP:

- Defenders retreat towards goal but stay BALANCED

- Communication

- Shape

- Stay high as long as possible, only drop into the 18 yard box as a last resort

- High tempo (game speed)

Progression

- Limit of 4 passes in any order to keep the defence guessing before playing outwide

- Encourage creativity in the attack, overlaps, crosses, give and go's, diagnol runs

Attack Vs Def Conditioned Game

In our 4-3-3 formation shape set up:

Def - Flat back four and 1 DM (dependant on numbers)

Att - 1 CF, 1 LF, 1 RF, 2 CM (dependant on numbers)

Time limit of 5 minutes then switch out. Keep score, defence can counter into the mini goals. Red get a new ball whenever a goal is scored or it goes out of play. Encourage quick play by the attack and defensive shape.
