Warm Up / SAQ

Warm Up / SAQ

Organization: 2 grids each 15x20 allowing plenty of room for the passing pattern and agility (SAQ) work.

Activity:

Passing Pattern - only one ball will be traveling at one time. Ball is played diagonally at all times to the player across from you on the right. When the ball reaches the two ends the ball is played back or dropped so we can continue with the angled passes. Be sure to follow your pass.

SAQ - Get in group of 2 and all we are working on is pressuring the ball with the lead player (closest or in the best position to apply pressure) then a supporting player player close enough to win the ball if the first defender is beat off the dribble. Each team will be pressuring three balls. One to the right one to the left and the final one will be directly in front of them. Coach can mix up the pattern making the players position their bodies differently working on mobility and coordination.

Coaching Points:

1. When in the passing pattern the weight of your pass needs to be accurate and playing the lead foot of the next player is ver important.

2. Try to play two touch if we can. Don't let the ball get stuck under your feet slowing down the pattern.

3. SAQ - be sure to break down and be under control when defending.

4. Do not overcommit and run by the ball allowing what would be the attacker to run past you.

5. Your last step forward needs to be your first step back. (always be thinking that).

Organization: Grid size 15x15 with it being 1v1 in the middle with each player having two bumpers.

Activity:

Players are trying to receive a pass from one of their bumper and lay it off or turn their defender while having heavy pressure from behind. Bumpers are allowed to play across the grid to each other but the only way you get a point is if the ball is played into the central player and he turn the defender or beats him/her and connects out the other side. If the defender wins it now he/she is on offense trying to accomplish the same task.

Coaching Points:

1. Be sure everyone matches up against all players from the other team.

2. Understand when the pressure is so tight you can't turn and must play back and be safe.

3. Try to feel the pressure with your hand so you know if you can turn and score a point for your team.

4. Active movement in the middle making the defender work hard to stay with you.

Organization: on bug grid 25x20 with a half way line dividing it into two different zones.

Activity:

Play beings with the ball on the outside of the grid. All player except for the defenders are free to make the decision of where they want to make their next pass. They can decide to go inside if that player has time and space or if things are too tight they may want to keep the ball outside away from the defenders. Central players are allowed to move into either side of the grid but their defender is not allowed to switch players. Each player inside the grid while on offense should be looking to touch the ball at least 5 to 6 times in 90 seconds. Defenders and attackers will switch with the same thing occurring except the teams have now changed.

Progression: Add one more attacker making it 3v2 in the middle. The defenders are not allowed to pass onto a new attacker if that will help them. How many completed passes can we get in a row.

Coaching Points:

1. Be smart with the ball while under pressure.

2. Make 2 or 3 movements to create the separation you need from the player defending you.

3. When play a pass to a player feed him with information such as man on time or turn.

Organization: One normal goal with 3 small goals the defenders re trying to score on. Grid is broken in half allowing for us to create situations where we are getting pressure from behind.

Activity:

Ball starts at the top of the grid where the attacking team is up 5v2 trying to keep possession and find the forward after 3 passes have been connected in their half. When the forward receives the ball 2 players from the defense had may enter the next level making it a 3v2 to goal. The forward needs to hold the ball at his/her feet allowing time for players to get higher up the field.

Coaching Points:

1. Active movement in and out from the forward.

2. Feel the pressure from the defenders. (there will only be one apply pressure). Do not turn into the other defender.

3. Get into dangerous areas in the attacking third stretching the back line.
