Welcome/ Ice Breaker (15 mins)

Organization:

Use this time to meet your team and do an ice breaker/ name game. Learning your players names will make them feel more welcome and excited to play. Kids also love to come up with a team name.

Warm-Up - Freeze (10 mins)

Equipment:

- Half field or smaller space (15x15 yards)

- Every player with a ball

Organization:

- Coach starts as freeze monster, with out ball, and chases players trying to tag and freeze them while player is dribbling.

- Once tagged players must stand with legs open and ball placed on their head.

- Can be unfrozen by having teammate pass ball between their legs.

- Rotate freeze monsters.

Key Coaching Points:

- Dribble with head up looking for frozen teammates.

- Keep ball close.

- Ball should be struck with inside of foot, push pass, to put ball between frozen players legs.

4 Sides (15 mins)

Equipment:

- Half Field or smaller as skill improves or less numbers.

- Every player with a ball.

Organization:

- Players are introduced to the 4 parts of the foot used when dribbling.... the inside, outside, laces and bottom (to stop).

- Have the players dribble in space using the 4 surfaces in this order - inside, outside, laces, stop with bottom.

- Start slow and then challenge them to use non dominate foot evey other time.

Key Coaching Points

- Keep ball close.

- Good quality touches starting slow and speeding up as skill is gained.

Crossing the Firery River (15 mins)

Equipment:

- Half field (or 20x15 yard) with end zones 2 to 3 yards deep

- Every player with a ball

- End zones 3 or 4 yards deep. (usually one stride is a yard)

Organization:

- Split players in half and one group starts in each end zone (use cones or even parents to make end zones.

- On coaches command players must race to opposite end zone and stop (trap) ball in end zone to receive a point.

- Players should yell out their name when they have full control.

Key Coaching Points:

- Speed dribbling should be done with laces - NOT instep

- Control ball when entering end zone to control stop and not run out of the back of end zone

- Head up to avoid oncoming player

Capture the Ball (15 mins)

Equipment:

- Three or four grids 3x3 yards set up equally apart from each other.

- All balls start in center of grids to begin game.

- Players split as evenly as possible into their home grids.

Organization:

- On coaches command players race to get balls and return them to their home base

- Players may also go into other home bases to get balls and return them to their own

- NO DEFENSE may be played or stealing balls

- Coach calls time and counts balls to determine winners - then starts new round

 - OPTION - start with players getting balls with hands to grasp concept of game.

Key Coaching Points

- Heads up when dribbling.

- Speed dribble back to home and control when entering.

- Move and quickly and efficiently as possible.
