warm up (5 mins)

Organization: 30x30 yard box every player with a ball.

Procedure: Players dribble within the grid, when coach yells go, players pick up the ball and toss in air and control the ball out of the air then begin dribbling again. Begin with controlling with feet only.

Progression: Introduce controlling with different part of the body. Thigh, chest, etc.

Coaching points: -Eye on the ball -Maintain balance -First touch into space

Receiving 1 (10 mins)

Organization: Six players. Four players on the cones, two with a ball, two without. Two players in the middle of the square one attacker one defender.

Procedure: Attacking player makes a run to a corner to receive a ball. First touch is free, a point is scored when the attacking plays ball to a player on the outside without. Cant play back to the same person. Then they try and find another ball. If defending player wins the ball they become the attacker. Rotate players after 1 minute.

Progression: Move from ball being played don the ground to ball being played in the air.

Coaching Points: -Get body behind the ball -Check shoulder to see where the pressure is and where open player is -Early selection of controlling surface.

Receiving 2 (10 mins)

Organization: 35x25 yard grid. Split into teams of 3.

Procedure: Two teams on the final thirds of the field try to score against the team in the middle third. A point is scored against the team in the middle when a ball is played through to the opposite team and they maintain posession. If the ball goes out or the team in the middle intercepts, the team that turned the ball over moves into the middle. (for younger group or less advanced have groups stay in their areas then rotate groups.

Coaching points: -Good first touch -Get body behind the ball -Checking surroundings to see where pressure is

coaching points: Focus on receiving techniques within the game. I.e body position when receiving, positive first touch.
