Touch Step Dribbling with Moves (25 mins)

Set up:

Line cones are 8-10 yards away from cone defender. The defender cones are set up in a diamond- players should visualize defender is standing on line with 3 cones but as attacker approaches defender, defender will step up so move should be done 2 yards before closest cone. No more than 3 players per grid.

How it Works:

Players will start on same side (not on opposite sides), we want attackers not worrying about timing move at same time but rather do move as quickly as possible. We want players to touch step every step.

Players will perform following move:

a. scissor (1. Touch step right before move 2. Drop shoulder as you scissor, 3.Touch out wide, more wide then forward)

b. Fake Take (1. Drop shoulder sideways 2. Touch out wide, more wide then forward)

c. Fake Take Hop (1.Hop sideways on support leg while dropping shoulder 2.

d. Scissor Fake Take (1. Scissor with one leg 2. Step out with other leg)

e. Any move (allow players to be creative)

1 v 1 Attacker vs. Live Defender (20 mins)

Set Up:

10 x 10 - 15 x 15 yard grid (depending on capability of players). Groups of 5 - 6.

1 player in the middle and the remaining players with a ball standing between the cones around the square.

How It Works:

Players take on player in the middle, they must demonstrate control over the line. If they beat the player they go at the back of the line on the opposite side. Then a player from the other direction proceeds to take the defender on (consistently changing sides). If defender wins ball then attacker who lost it becomes defender.

Defender cannot move forward until attacker takes 1st touch. Attackers should be ready to take advantage of off balance defender but attackers must wait until defender is nearing the middle.

Progression:

Attackers must try one of the moves practiced (unless defender rushes attacker immediately) to beat a player.

Competition - 1st to get 5 goals etc...

Keys:

1. Attack with speed

2. Keep eyes on ball and defender

3. Believe in your move

4. Accelerate after move

5. Adjust if defender recovers

Dribbling in Possession (25 mins)

Set Up:

25-30 x 15 grid (adjust to your group). 6 v 6 in the middle with 2 side support on each side. Ideally, 4 v 4 with 4 with the option of (1 neutral) is best. If players have difficulty then 5 v 5 with 1 or 2 inside neutrals can be used to make the game successful.

How it Works:

Each team is trying to score by stopping the ball on the line. Teams are trying to score on the same goal throughout (i.e. they DO not change direction).

Players can ONLY dribble forward, not pass forward. They can play slightly forward to side support and side support players can play forward into attackers.

Teams can use their side support who have 2 touches with their own designated support areas.

3-4 Minute Games then rotate.

Progression:

Players can pass normally but receive a point if they beat a player and complete a pass right after it.

Keys (General: Depth, Width, Improvisation, Mobility, Penetration):

1. Attack open space

2. Set up fake to space covered so that open space can become bigger

3. Attack with speed

4. Believe in your move and accelerate

5. Know where you are going to ass after dribbling
