Basico - inside/out (20 mins)

Setup:

Half field as shown with flags for defenders

Activity:

Follow your pass for rotation. Work both sides on same pattern (5 minutes each pattern).

A) Inside/out pattern from #4->#6->#2: Ball should be played into space for #2 to run onto

B) Inside/out pattern from #5->#11->#3: Ball should be played into feet of #3

After both patterns, play to middle player who plays LOFTED ball back to other player to receive and dribble to other side.

Coaching Points:

~ Weight of pass (hard if too feet, soft if to space)

~ #2/3 getting behind defender once ball has passed them

Pressing Warmup (10 mins)

Passing and pressing drill. Pass right, move left. Opposite player closes down to press.

Progression: Allow player to try to intercept ball (or tackle passer). 1 point for intercept/tackle; 3 points if win space (and ball)

Coaching Points:

~ Travel as ball travels

~ Break down to keep play in front

~ Surfboard to make play predictable

5v3 competition (20 mins)

Intervals:

2 minute work + 1 min rest x 6 games = 18 minutes

Setup:

two 25x25 grids side by side

2 teams of 8 (numbered 1-8)

Activity:

Team in possession scores by completing 10 passes

Defensive team scores in counter goal.

Coaching Points:

+ After losing ball, 3 seconds of fury

+ If haven't won ball back in 3 seconds, recover behind ball to get compact

+ MENTALITY --> quick reactions on transition

Intervals:

4 min work + 1 min rest x 4 games = 20 min

Setup:

40x50 grid in midfield, but on one side of midfield to pull in wide players

White in 3-2-1 (with players as shown)

Blue in same formation

Activity:

Team in possession tries to score in opposite gate where target is waiting. When target is played, they switch to opposite target who passes into their team (transition). Progress to switched target dribbling into game and player takes their spot.

Coaching Points:

+ 3 second rule -- immediate pressure after losing possession by 3 nearest players.

+ If they get organized, so do we -- if we havent won ball after 3 seconds, get compact behind ball

+ #11/#3 channelling play inside where numbers are

3v2-->4v3 (10 mins)

Setup:

Half a field with 2 big goals

Balls behind one goal.

Activity:

GK distributes to 3 attackers versus 2 defenders and tries to score in big goal.

Once defending team wins possession (or GK makes save), 2 extra attackers join in to play 4v3 the other direction.

Coaching Points:

~ If lose ball, 3 seconds of fury by nearest players

~ If they get organized, so do we (compact behind ball)
