Ball Mastery (15 mins)

Organization:

-all players

-area: centre circle

-players work in small groups from outside to inside the circle performing different ball mastery and 1v1 moves

Progressions/Variations:

-ball mastery - inside touches/inside-outside touches/sole rolls/toe-taps/pull-pushes

-turns - step-ons/u-turns/hook turns/drag-back

-moves - inside-outside cuts/fake take/circle take/pull-pushes

Coaching Points:

-lots of quality touches

-use both feet

-good control and tempo of moves

-accelerate after move

Technical Passing (15 mins)

Organization:

-See diagram for equipment and set-up

-12 players

-15x10 area

-Technical Passing boxes: players pass, move, and combine on a variety of passing and receiving exercises. Go in both directions to work both feet.

Progressions/Variations:

1. Start with or add two balls

2. Dribbling from one corner to the next (lots of touches, variety of moves)

3. 2 touch pass/receive around outside of box, open body/pass to back foot

4. Short dribble with pass inside for team mate to move onto - can they get it to one touch?

5. Pass with give and go combination - can they get it to one touch?

Key Points:

-Good first touch - can it set up your pass?

-Good passing - accurate (to feet) well weighted (into space)

-Good body position - open to the game, allows for first touch into space

-Head up - scan the area - space, team mates, opponents

-Quick Tempo - play at game speed and intensity

-Communication - talking, body shape, signals, eye contact

3v1/3v2 To Goal (15 mins)

Organisation:

-area: approx. 20x20 (5 yard target zone)

-see diagram for equipment and set-up

-play is started with the goalkeeper or coach rolling the ball out towards end of the area. On that trigger, 3 attacking players move out to the ball (all players must get into the target zone before they can attack), as soon as they touch the ball 1 defenders can move out to oppose them creating a 3v1 situation. If defenders win the ball, they can drive into the target zone and score by knocking the ball off the cone. Rotate players roles frequently.

Progressions/Variations:

-add a 2nd trailing defender to make 3v2

Coaching Points:

-quick combinations towards goal

-good movement off the ball to receive in space and move defenders around

-accurate finishing on goal.

-(defenders) 1st pressure/2nd cover

2v2+1 (15 mins)

Organization:

-see diagram for set-up and equipment

-2 areas approx. 15x10yards

-2v2 small-sided game with 2 floating neutral players creating 3v2/4v2

-rotate the floating players frequently

Key Points:

-when is a good time to dribble or pass?

-how can you take advantage of the extra player(s) when attacking?

-how can we create chances for 1v1?

-how can communication help us when we attack?
