Warm Up - SAQ (10 mins)

Warm Up - 20 mins - (10 mins here / 10 mins ball mastery)

Organisation

Elite and select players mix up for the warm up. A coach to lead this simple SAQ section and another to lead ball mastery (on next slide).

Four Stations

1) Slalom run (concentrating on slowing down before cone and adopting defensive position)

2) Hurdles

3) Ladders (Variations)

4) Dribbling slalom - ball each

3 reps per station then move on

Coaching Points

- correct technique on hurdls and ladders

- speed up / slow down / correct stance / adjust feet on slalom without the ball.

Ball Mastery - 12 mins

Organisation

Toe taps / toe taps in a square/ sole taps /sole taps forwards and backwards / pull push

1) box the ball (progression box x5 turn 90 degrees, keep going until all the way round)

2) toe taps (progression -toe taps forwards and backwards)

3) pull push (progression - pull then push with outside)

Competition

- different skill at each station moving up the line. 10 repetitions at each one.

1V1 (20 mins)

1v1 Practise - 15 mins

Organisation

Defender takes two touches and passes attacking player, who tries to beat defender and dribble through gates on end line. Swap roles. Two groups of 8.

Coaching Points

- Coaching Points made with balls being passed into one group whilst other three groups remain inactive - then let the groups work independently.

- Pressure on the ball - quick then slow up, adjust feet (weight at front of feet)

- Bodyshape to force attacker away from goal (knees bent, nearly side on, body between ball and goal)

- Delay attacker unless clearly able to take the ball

4v4s (20 mins)

Small Sided Games - 4v4s - 20 mins

Organisation

Players play 4v4 with emphasis on pressure on teh ball and players using correct defensive position to force attackers wide.Rotate teams.

Variation

- Ask players to try and defend without making any contact with opposing player - here emphasis will be on anticipation and trying to intercept passes and loose touches

Coaching Points

- Consolidation of pressure / position coaching points

- 'Interceptions are th ebst form of defending'

- encourage defenders to stand and force attackers to make the first move
