Learning Objectives

Technical
Technical
Play quickly, less touches will move the ball faster. Ball control, scan before receiving, weight of pass. Can Liam have a look before receiving and have an idea of where he can send the ball once he has it?
Technical
Tactical
Ask each team to play with intensity, press quickly, close down and force errors.
Technical
Physical
Work hard, angle your runs to close down players and their passing options.
Technical
Psychological
Be brave and get on the ball as much as possible, but don't dwell on it. Offer support to all teammates, both emotionally and physically.
Technical
Social
Take the arrival game as a time to chat to your teammates whilst acheiving the goals i'm giving them. Can all players try to give teamates good information as they play that is relevant to the situation.

Arrival (20 mins)

2 games of 3v3 side by side. Score by getting the ball to the target man in the end zone, end zone player must pass the ball to an opposing player to initiate play once his team have scored. If the opposition keep the ball for more than 5 passes, the opposing end zone player can come in and overload until their team wins the ball, the player must get back into the end zone for his team to score a point though.

Add in rotation by asking the targwet player to enter play once his team scores and the scoring player to take his place.

Setup Explanation (5 mins)

Shaded area is all the room we have each week at our winter training venue. To make the most of it here, i've chunked the pitch down and i'm asking the players to try and find ways of playing out to the wingback as often as possible.

I've shown our team (in orange) as I ask them to line-up when we're playing out from the goalkeeper, we play as a 1-5-4-1 and the opposition are setup as a 4-4-1-1 as this is what we find ourselves playing against the most.

Social
Ask Brad to give some specific information to his defenders when in possession. Can the CMs look to give the WB good information and obvious triggers for his movement.

Phase (40 mins)

7 Oranges vs 5 Pinks.

Oranges play out and attempt to score in the mini goal at the edge of the pitch. Ask the oranges to be patient, trust in one another and work their position as best they can. Don't be afraid to play back to the goalie if needed.

CP: Scan, ball control, pass weight, good & quick decision making, off the ball movement.

Challenge: Can the oranges draw the pinks in to the middle of the pitch to allow the WB more space out wide. Can they then recognise when to play to him and do it quickly.

Pinks attempt to win the ball back, if they do, they have 10 seconds to attack the goal. Once the timer is up, the goalie starts play once again. If the ball goes out of play, the goalie will start us off again from his position. No throw ins, no corners.
