Warm up (20 mins)

Technical warm up

1 player works and 1 sets.

1) Working player receives a right foot pass - side steps to other cone - receives a left foot pass - sprints to the next server.

2) Right foot half volley - side step - left foot half volley

3) Right foot volley - side step - left foot volley

4) Right knee to volley - side step - left knee to volley

5) Defensive header - side step - attacking header

Each player must sprint between each server. They work with the servers within their grid to start and get back to where they began.

Do it once, then do it twice, then to do it three times.

Playing forward quickly (25 mins)

Key Factors

- 1st touch to play forward

- Ball speed (Limited touches)

- Weight of pass

- Areas to hit on final ball

- Change of intensity and tempo when going forward (Line breakers)

Set up

6 players are active to start the practice

2 players at the bottom of practice, 1 player starts with the ball and plays across to his/her opposite number

They then drive out, play forward early to the player in the middle of the practice acting as a number 10

and both the bottom players continue their run forward (Change of intensity)

The number 10 then sets the other player in the middle with him who then plays out the other side to the oncoming bottom player.

He then plays in to the top players and the practice continues

Progression

- vary movement from 2 blues (realistic)

- vary final pass (diagonal and not straight)

- last player shoots

Competition

-in pairs who scores the most goals?

Timings

Work for 4 minutes x 3 with 90 second rest

SSG (20 mins)

Set up:

2 x 15 by 15 (may vary) set up side by side with a target player on the end of each

Both teams try to maintain position in one grid. The aim is to transfer it to opposite target man. When this happens every player transfers into that grid.

Target player has 2 touches. A goal is scored if the same colour of who passed to the target man receives in the other grid.

3 x 3 minute games - 1 minute rest.

Game (25 mins)

Set up

4 v 4 with 2 target players either side of goal. Have to score first time finish off target player

Can we play forward quickly?

Can we support that pass forward?

Make sure of the set.
