Technique

Set-up: The two poles are a tied, using a highly visable ribbon or table, at approximately knee hieght of the tallest player.

During this section the players willingness to try for a catch that requires that extra push should be encouraged. Also as this is done from a standing start the ball should be at a realistically catchable, yet challanging, pace.

To complete this practice, the player can roll under (1) the ribbon and make a simple save (2). After this (3) they must then dive over the ribbon to make another save.

Variations include:

(1) Rolling under the ribbon,

(1) Jumping over the ribbon,

(2) Collapsing Low Save,

(2) Collapsing Mid-hieght Save,

(3) The Goalkeeper can roll after the save, before the dive,

(4) The dive can be to the top corner, or at mid-height.

Skill

The goalkeeper uses footwork to move through the cones, before diving over the ribbon to make a save.

The goalkeeper should use different forms of footwork to move through the cones.

The ball should be thrown early enough for the goalkeeper to react and dive for the ball, rather than the ball be thrown into the goalkeepers dive.
