Warm Up (10 mins)

Organization:

1. 10x10 grids

2. Two players per grid with one ball

Instructions:

1. Player 1 lets the ball bounce on the ground and uses their laces to kick the ball into the air, ball must be played high than the players head

2. Player 2 lets the ball bounce then uses their laces to kick the ball back into the air

3. This rotation continues until the ball is played out of bounds or a player cannot get to the ball before the second bounce

4. Points are received by a player when the opposing player hits the ball out of bounds or cannot get to the ball before the second bounce.

5. Games will be played for two minutes, winners will move up a box while the losing player stays. For box number one, the winning player stays and the losing player moves to the last box.

Coaching Points:

1. On toes and stay in line with the ball

2. Lock the ankle

3. Contact with the laces

Progressions:

P - No bounce

R - Two bounces

Main Theme 1 (20 mins)

Organization:

1. Separate team into pairs of two players

2. Three balls per pair of players

3. Two cones per pair of players

4. 10x10 area set up as shown, one for each pair of players

Instructions:

1. Player 1 starts the round by striking the ball with their laces at their opponent's ball.

2. If the ball is knocked off the cone then the player earns a point.

3. Ball is replaced and it is now Player 2's turn to strike the ball with their laces in attempt to knock the ball off the cone.

4. Players play until the allotted amount of time has expired.

Coaching Points:

1. Angle of approach off center

2. Head up to observe target

3. Head down at the point of contact

4. Non-kicking foot placed to side, slightly behind the ball

5. Ankle locked, toe down

6. Body weight forward, chest and knee over the ball at contact

7. Follow through landing on striking foot

Main Theme 2 (20 mins)

Organization:

1. 40 x 40 yard area set up as shown

2. 12 players (6 Attackers, 6 Defenders) set up as shown

3. Lots of balls by defending players starting position

Instructions:

1. The game starts with one of the defending players making a diagonal pass to one of the attacking players

2. The attacker must attempt to beat the defender out of the square and shoot on the goal behind them

3. The defending players must attempt to stop them leaving the square over there end or side line

4. Once the attacker is out of the square the defender is beat and cannot recover

5. The game restarts with the next players

6. After each attempt each player returns to their starting position

7. Rotate attackers and defenders after a set time interval

Coaching Points:

1. Positive first touch to attack the defender at speed

2. Timing and execution of fakes and feints

3. Accelerate to beat the defender

4. Cut into space behind defending player once beaten – ‘Close the door’

Progression:

1. P – Allow defending players to recover so that they can now tackle outside of the square

2. P – Play 1v2 to goal so that the defending player has cover

3. R – Allow the attackers to start with the ball
