Warm-Up

Organization:

1. 40x30 area.

2. Three groups of four.

3. One ball per group.

Instructions:

1. Players pass and move inside their area.

2. Start off with no restrictions.

3. Layer in different sequences:

A) pass with opposite foot used to receive,

B) short-short-long,

C) long pass followed by one-touch set into support.

Coaching Points:

1. Technical execution of push and driven passes.

2. Head up to observe space and target.

3. Moments to pass: eye contact.

4. Communication: which foot, when to pass, etc.

5. Movement to support and create space.

Progressions:

1. Put limit on touches.

Main Theme

Organization:

1. 40x30 area.

2. 5yd gates along outside.

3. Players set up as shown.

Instructions:

1. Each team starts with a ball.

2. Players look to pass into outside target players.

3. Target player passes back to same team that passed.

4. After set time, remove a ball: 4v4 in middle.

5. Teams look to connect with any of outside players for a point.

6. Play 2-3 minutes. After set time, losing team switches with target players.

Coaching Points:

1. Movement to create space and support.

2. Angles and distance of support.

3. Movement to get numbers around the ball.

4. Look for moments to penetrate/split.

5. Communication: verbal and visual.

6. Quality of passing technique (push, driven, and one-touch).

Progressions:

1. Limit target players' touches.

Conditioned Game

Organization:

1. 40x30 area.

2. Players set up as shown.

Instructions:

1. Teams play 4v4 in center of area.

2. Players along outside are targets.

3. Five passes inside central area = one point.

4. Pass into target player = one point.

5. Targets cannot challenge each other.

6. Rotate roles.

Coaching Points:

1. Movement to create space and support.

2. Angles and distance of support.

3. Create at least three lines of attack.

4. Communication: verbal and visual

5. Decision-making: penetrate vs. possess.

Progressions:

1. Increase to ten passes for one point.

2. Pass into target has to end with pass back into middle for point to count.

3. Allow opposing target player to challenge for the ball.

Free Play

Organization:

1. 40x30 area.

2. Two goals.

Instructions:

1. Teams play 4v4 to goal.

2. Games are two minutes or golden goal.

3. Losing team goes off, new team on.

4. New team always starts with possession.

5. In case of draw, team that has been on longest goes off.

Coaching Points:

1. Three lines of attack.

2. Movement off the ball.

3. Communication.

4. Decision-making: when to possess vs. when to penetrate.
